: Aomori Sandman Festival
1. Source
Aomori Sand Festival is said to have been transformed from Chinese Valentine's Day in China. After Jin Qing merged with local customs, it became a lantern made of paper, bamboo and candles. Because candles were used in lanterns in the past, they were also called fire ceremonies.
Sleeping lanterns used to be a rural parade, but now they are sponsored by enterprises or non-governmental organizations and become one of the representative festivals in Japan.
There are different opinions about the source of the sandman sacrifice. The main statement is: Because Aomori Prefecture is hot in summer, people are prone to fatigue and laziness. The purpose of this festival is to make everyone full of energy in summer and drive the sandman to put all his energy into his work and get a good harvest.
What is a "sandman"? In fact, it is a huge lantern weighing 4 tons, with characters and ghosts tied to it in mythology, history or Japanese legend.
2. Custom
During the festival, there will be a variety of large Sandman lanterns made by kabuki or historical myths, and more than 20 seats will participate in the parade. Haneda dancers dressed in colorful costumes and accompanied by piccolo and Taigu bands took part in the Sandman Festival parade.
