What is the theme of the works of Finnish writer John Ludwig Runberg?
Swedish writer Johann Ludwig Ruenberg (1804- 1877) was influenced by the patriotic trend of thought of Saturday Society, because he was a rural teacher and wrote many poems describing rural life. His first novel, The Elk Hunter (1832), depicts the simple character and noble quality of farmers. His "Our Land" written on 1846 is one of the long poems "The Story of the Flag-bearer Stoll". The poem reproduces the sufferings brought to Finland by the Russian-Swiss war from 1808 to 1809, which is profound, tragic and impassioned. After it was written in 1848, it was widely circulated among the masses.
