Tianning District is located in the northeast of Changzhou City, bordering Jiangyin City in Wuxi City in the east and northeast, Wujin District in the south, Zhonglou District in the west and Xinbei District in the northwest, with a total area of 154.84 square kilometers. Tianning District is located in the south bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and belongs to the water network plain of Taihu Lake Basin. The territory is flat, slightly inclined from northwest to southeast, with an altitude of 3 to 6 meters. The surface is mainly composed of silt with smaller particle size and lacustrine deposit, mostly alluvial cohesive soil.

There are Cailing Port, Datong River, Xihe River, Hengtang River, Ninghe River, Shenpu River, Huangtiandang River, Qinglong Port, Tangding Port, Lupu Port, Tongjiabang, Caotangbang, Huangjiabang, Longxingbang and Huangjiabang.
