The anti-social hero in "The Ace of the Secret Service" is so cute. He has a symmetrical bald head, a sexy smile and great energy, and can handle two women at the same time. He was confident in the dock of the court and showed his ass to reporters outside the court. Crime is even braver. It is a piece of cake to rob a bank and steal famous paintings. Even people with superb morality are likely to be infected by this romantic atmosphere and deeply intoxicated by it. He committed a crime because he was persecuted by the society. His modus operandi was so handsome that the thief had a good way. How can he not be worshipped! But for "the thief has a way", this film seems to pay too much attention to the extraordinary skill of the thief and ignore his other "Tao".
Behind the anti-society, there seems to be no more thinking in the film, just a flashback of the persecution process of the protagonist. Great heroes occasionally shout anti-social slogans, but they are only superficial impressions and can't see deeper levels. The most important social mechanism that constitutes the story is submerged in the police catching robbers, fighting with the police and chasing cars on the road. Aside from this layer, what this film can really satisfy the audience is the commercial film, which has well-designed commercial effects and brings climax pleasure. But that's like watching another wonderful film, too ordinary! Not exciting enough!
The movies in Kenluo District are all low-level people, and there are few high-ranking officials and policemen, but you can feel the behind-the-scenes state machine from the daily life of the characters. In "The Ace", a long line of policemen chased the hero all the way, and they couldn't get rid of it. The process of the hero getting rid of the police is wonderful, but the symbolic meaning of the police is invisible. In Kenlow's films, the revolution never succeeded, leaving the audience with infinite reverie; In "Ace", powerful people spend money, but everyone forgets the love in the big era set by the story.
So at best, The Ace is just a happy pill that makes you shake your head and satisfy your anti-social passion within two hours. After playing, it's still the same. The heavy social burden in Kenlow's films has not been alleviated. Anyway, it seems that the director didn't mean it.
