Liu Laogen is a modern country comedy directed by Zhao Benshan and Xie Xiaomei, produced by CCTV and China TV Production Center, and starring Zhao Benshan, Fan Wei, Gao Xiumin and Jing Li. The play premiered in the prime time of CCTV on March 6, 2002. Liu Laogen has three parts, namely Liu Laogen, Liu Laogen 2 and Liu Laogen 3.
The play mainly tells the story of a respected old branch secretary who lived in the city for a long time after being pushed down by his son, returned to his hometown to engage in tourism and catering industry, and used folk art to attract audiences on the street. At the age of 50, he realized his long-cherished wish to make the villagers rich.
Replicas such as Liu Laogen are labeled as life-oriented and civilian, and there is no bizarre plot. They are short-term "small productions" of parents who specialize in trivial matters, but they can capture the affinity of ordinary people better than those who are keen on "amorous feelings", "joking", "warning" and "false".
