I haven't seen the film Red Sorghum, and of course I haven't seen the original. I didn't borrow this book until Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature recently. I feel that Mo Yan, on the one hand, poured a lot of feelings into his writing, on the other hand, he skillfully showed off his novel skills and flashbacks, making the whole time clue confusing and reasonable, leaving readers a little confused, but at the same time marveling at the author's arrangement. The climax of the book, "Commander Yu ambushed the devil and' My Grandma' died", is arranged in the front, and the love and hate between Yu Zhanao and' My Grandma' is unfolded in the back, telling all kinds of stories behind' My Grandma' before her death. Mo Yan's mastery of clues shows that he has a general style with a big layout in his chest. Although there are only 270,000 words, there are many clues. Without the ability of command and decision, these stories can never be arranged in such a reasonable and smooth way. From this perspective, this book is a beautiful display of novel skills. No wonder Mo Yan said in an introduction to "Big Breasts and Fat Buttocks" that to write a long novel, it is necessary to have a big picture, and even cited such an example: some people can only take one regiment, while others can command thousands of troops. It is not difficult to see from the preface that Mo Yan is confident in his ability to grasp novels, and it is indeed the case. However, although this writing method integrates various clues according to the author's meaning, it is also a big test for readers.
Many people pay more attention to the publicity of wildness and primitive desire in Mo Yan's works. Nobel Prize in Literature called Mo Yan's works "magic realism" when awarding prizes, but I don't think this is Mo Yan's greatest feature. Others think that Mo Yan and Zhang Yimou are willing to show the backward side of China, while foreigners like to watch these, which is even more irrelevant. In my opinion, Mo Yan's works give people a cruel force, tearing open the veil of warmth in civilized society, directly peeling off the skin of war, death and lust, and showing the most cruel side to readers. Reading Mo Yan's books requires considerable endurance. He is absolutely different from the subtle and elegant expression in general literary works, but simply describes violence, filth and cruelty. If this is a feature, then this feature is that he dares to face the truth in the world. His books are not written for children, but as a catharsis of himself, the product of the writer's inner strength, or the externalization of his repressed emotions.
