1949 In February, the Asian Sports Association announced that the first Asian Games would be held in New Delhi from 65438 to 0950. Subsequently, the Organizing Committee of the Asian Games in New Delhi was quickly established. However, because the wounds of World War II have not healed, neither newly independent India nor China has great economic strength to support the Asian Games. Under such economic difficulties, the necessary sports facilities for the Asian Games were not completed as scheduled within the prescribed time limit. The competition equipment ordered by the organizing Committee in Europe was not delivered to New Delhi on time. Therefore, the Asian Games Federation agreed to postpone the Games for one year, and the time was 195 1.
Later, with the heartfelt attention of Indian Prime Minister Nehru, the first Asian sports event-the first Asian Games was finally successfully opened in March 195 1. Since then, the Asian Games has never been postponed due to the shortage of funds.
195 1 On the afternoon of March 4th, 2008, the sunlight focused by concave mirror lit the flame of the Asian Games in the red castle of Shah Jahan Palace, king of the fifth Mughal dynasty. The organizing committee selected 44 relay runners from the army, police and universities, and passed them in turn, holding the torch high and running to the National Stadium. Finally, they were handed to the famous Indian sports veteran Businger, who lit the torch in the cauldron of the stadium, and the flame of the Asian Games was blazing.

The first Asian Games in New Delhi started with the basketball match between Myanmar and the Philippines on March 5th. The first gold medal was won by Singapore's Liang Shuiguo who participated in the men's 1 0,500-meter freestyle. He swept all the gold medals in all four freestyle events and won four championships.
