On July 1889 and 14, Marxists from all over the world held a socialist congress in Paris. At the meeting, Lavin proposed that 1 May, 8861Sunday, the day when American workers strive for an eight-hour working system, be designated as the * * * festival of the international proletariat, and the delegates unanimously agreed. Since then, "May 1" International Labor Day was born.
China people's activities to celebrate Labor Day can be traced back to 19 18. This year, some revolutionary intellectuals distributed leaflets introducing May Day to the masses in Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Hankou.
May 1920, 1, the sixth issue of new youth was published, and workers from industrial cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Jiujiang and Tangshan marched to the market and held huge demonstrations and assemblies.
On that day, workers and intellectuals from all over the country gathered together. At the commemorative meeting, representatives from all walks of life made speeches. The workers put forward the requirements of "eight hours of work, eight hours of rest and eight hours of education" and shouted slogans such as "Long live the workers" and "Long live the industrial community of China".
This is the first time that China commemorates May 1 International Labor Day, and it is also the first May 1 Labor Day in the history of China.
