Origin of World Soil Day:
Soil is the foundation of food security, water security and wider ecosystem security. Good land management, including soil management, has important economic and social significance. At present, it is urgent to raise people's awareness of the limitation of soil resources and improve its sustainability.
In June of 20 13, the General Assembly of the World Food and Agriculture Organization adopted a resolution to designate 12.5 as World Soil Day and 20 15 as International Year of Soil, which was also recognized by the United Nations General Assembly on February 20th of 20 13.
February 5, 20 14 14 is the first World Soil Day of the United Nations, and the International Year of Soil 20 15 was officially launched on that day. The official slogan of IYS20 15 is that healthy soil brings healthy life, aiming at raising people's awareness and understanding of the important role of soil in food security and basic ecosystem functions. The launching ceremony will be held in new york, Rome and Bangkok with the theme of soil, the foundation of family agriculture.
