The Labour Party elected a new leader on Saturday (20 10 on September 25th). Ed Miliband, a 40-year-old former climate change minister, defeated his brother and was elected as the new leader at the Labour Party conference in Manchester. Ed Miliband won by a very narrow majority yesterday, with a vote rate of 50.65%, while his arch-rival and former foreign minister David Miliband won by a narrow margin of 1.3% with a vote rate of 49.35%. Labour's election is very fierce. In addition to the Miliband brothers, former Minister of Children, Primary and Secondary Schools and Family Affairs Bowles, former Minister of Health burnham and Abbott, a member of the left wing of the Labour Party, took part in the competition. However, the competition of the Miliband brothers, coupled with their close support rate, made the election campaign heated up. In his speech accepting the appointment of the party leader, Ed said: "Today's election has turned a new page, because the new generation has stepped onto the stage of serving our party, and I hope to eventually serve our country. Today, a new generation of work has begun. " The Miliband brothers, separated by four and a half years, studied in the same middle school, graduated from Oxford University and served in Brown's cabinet. They are the first batch of "cabinet brothers" in British politics since 1938. Although they are brothers, their positions are quite different. David is highly valued by former Prime Minister Tony Blair and is one of the founders and staunch supporters of the "New Labour Party". Under Blair's rule, the political slogan of the Labour Party was changed to "New Labour Party, New Britain", and the provisions on public ownership in party constitution were abolished. The Labour Party gradually alienated from the trade unions and became closer to the middle class.
Ed sought the "return" of the Labor Party, criticized the concept of "New Labor Party" and accused the Labor Party government under the guidance of this concept of failing to provide enough employment opportunities and effectively narrow the gap between the rich and the poor.
As an opposition party, the most important task of the new leader of the Labor Party is to deal with the plan of drastically reducing public expenditure announced by the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democratic Party coalition government next month.
