Song and Song DM both have the word "Song", but the power systems of the two cars are very different. Song DM is equipped with BYD's main dual-mode power system, which consists of 1.5T in-cylinder direct injection turbocharged engine and two motors. Did Song DM also make some improvements to the chassis after joining the dual-mode power system? Just before, we have dismantled the chassis of the ordinary version of Song. This time, we can compare it and see what is the difference between the chassis structure of Song DM and ordinary Song.

As can be seen from the above figure, the front suspension of Song DM adopts McPherson structure, which consists of four parts: lower arm, steering rod, rotating shaft and anti-roll rod. Song DM's lower arm is welded by double-layer stamped steel plate, which is theoretically stronger than ordinary single-layer stamped steel plate. In order to reduce the unsprung weight, its lower arm is also drilled to a certain extent to improve the response speed of the suspension.

Although we can't see what kind of subframe Song DM used in the above picture, we know that Song DM used a full-frame subframe with better structure when disassembling it. What's more, it is better than the ordinary version of Song Dynasty that the guard plate of Song DM engine covers a wider area, which can further reduce the occurrence of chassis bumps.

In some details, under the front wheel arch, Song DM designed a small spoiler, which can reduce tire bumps when driving at high speed. At the joint between the lower swing arm and the horn, Song DM adopted an independent ball head design, which is more flexible and cheaper than the whole ball head replacement. At the joint between the lower arm and the subframe, as well as the joint between the subframe and the car body, Song DM has added bushings to improve the driving feeling, which is also the practice.

Song DM adopted the integrated design of mechanical spring. By arranging the spring upwards, space is reserved for the arrangement of the transmission shaft and the motor. In order to make more space, the whole rear suspension structure of Song DM is made more compact, consisting of two lower cross arms and one longitudinal arm, and the whole subframe is completely different. It can only be said that in order to save the space of motor and transmission mechanism, the rear suspension structure of Song DM has changed a lot compared with the ordinary version of Song.

In order to improve the driving quality, Song DM also used bushings at the joint between the rear subframe and the body at all costs. Thanks to the blessing of batteries and motors, Song DM is much heavier than the ordinary version of Song. In order to improve the responsiveness of the suspension and make up for the influence of weight increase on the dynamic response of the car body, Song DM adopted aluminum alloy material on the trailing arm and one of the transverse arms of the rear suspension to reduce the unsprung weight.

Song's entire battery block is placed in the center of the chassis. It is indeed the most suitable place to put it here. In addition, in terms of chassis protection measures, Song DM is better than the ordinary version of Song. The whole chassis is sprayed with a thick coating, and some related pipes are protected by plastic protective plates. Anyway, these are all done in place.

In Song Dynasty, the glass fiber material with sound insulation effect was used in DM front and rear arches. As can be seen from the above picture, the area of the rear wheel arch sound insulation material is well covered. On the contrary, the area covered by the front wheel arch is relatively small, so it would be better if the front and rear wheel arches can be consistent.

Judging from the disassembly situation, Song DM did make many adaptive improvements in the design of suspension structure in order to adapt to the dual-mode power system. Especially in the rear suspension, in addition to the more compact design, the swing arm made of aluminum alloy is also adopted, which is more thoughtful. And looking at the whole chassis, Song DM's protective measures are to make the ordinary version of Song more in place.
