The Water Margin is one of China's four classical novels. Perhaps many people, like Bian Xiao, have never understood why this book should be named after the word "Water Margin". In the past, the teacher told us that these two words mean the edge of water. The story took place in Liangshan, Shui Bo, so it was named after it.

But with the growth of age and knowledge, many people have doubts about this view. Shi Naian in A Talented Man and a Beautiful Woman can write such a good book, how can he simply be named after a place name? Today, I really understood the meaning of the word Water Margin.

According to historical records, these two sentences first appeared in the Book of Songs: "The ancient duke and his father came to fetch horses from the DPRK, led them to Liangshanpo in the west, and as for Qi Xia", which is a story about the tribe migration led by Zhou.

Because Zhou's population was very small at that time, and his place was barren, he would be plundered by other tribes. Zhou decided to leave his native land with his clan and went through hardships to find the fertile land of Qishan. Zhou's family thrived here and finally established the famous Zhou Dynasty in history, so later generations also gave the word "Water Margin" the meaning of "way out".

With this meaning, we can read Water Margin again and understand why this work can become a classic. We know that among the heroes in this 108, there are thugs, farmers, businessmen, petty officials and even officers. They represent all social strata and take risks for various reasons.
