Kanas Lake is located in the north of Burqin County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang, with a length of 24.5 kilometers and an average width of 1.9 kilometers. It is the thinnest freshwater lake in China. Kanas Lake has an average water depth of 120m and a maximum water depth of 188.4m, with an area of 45.73km2 and a total natural landscape protection area of 5588km2. It is the deepest moraine dammed lake in China. In 2005, Kanas Lake was selected as the second most beautiful lake in China by chinese national geography magazine.
