What is the theme of World Reading Day in 2020?
The theme of World Reading Day in 2020 is: the city is read by all, and the city is full of care.
Every year, UNESCO and international organizations representing the three major sectors of the book industry-publishers, booksellers and libraries-choose a city as the book capital of the world. From April 23rd every year, the elected city will enjoy this title for one year.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was elected because the city attaches importance to inclusive education, actively builds a knowledge-based society and provides reading convenience for all citizens.
Kuala Lumpur put forward the slogan "KLBACA-Caring through Reading", which mainly focuses on four themes: promoting the diversification of reading forms, developing the infrastructure of the book industry, enhancing the inclusiveness of reading and the convenience of digital space, and promoting children's growth through reading. In addition, Kuala Lumpur also plans to build a book city (Kota Buku Complex), launch a reading activity for train commuters, improve the digital services and barrier-free environment provided by the National Library of Malaysia for the disabled, and provide new digital services for 12 libraries in poor residential areas in Kuala Lumpur.
The theme of Kuala Lumpur is "Reading for All, Caring for the City", aiming at cultivating a culture of reading and tolerance, emphasizing that reading is very convenient in any corner of the city. Kuala Lumpur's ambitious plan of "World Book Capital" is closely related to the city's vision in 2020 and the "River of Life" eco-city project. The "River of Life" project plans to build an open-air bookstore and library on the newly restored waterway in Kuala Lumpur.
Purpose of establishment
The purpose of World Book Day is to hope that people scattered around the world, no matter whether you are old or young, whether you are rich or poor, whether you are sick or healthy, can enjoy reading, respect and thank the literary, cultural, scientific and ideological masters who have made great contributions to human civilization, and protect intellectual property rights.
Every year, on this day, 100 countries in the world hold various celebrations and book promotion activities, but this day is not widely known in China. In recent years, some publishing houses and bookstores have begun to engage in some public welfare activities.
