Suzhoujie station, the subway 10 line, is named after its location in the northern section of Suzhou Street, a famous ancient commercial street in western Beijing.
This ancient street has a history of more than 240 years, starting from Manjuji on the west side of Zizhuyuan in the south and reaching the west side of Haidian Town in the north. In the sixteenth year of Qing Qianlong (175 1), Emperor Qianlong visited Jiangnan, and so did his mother. When Empress Dowager Cixi was sixty years old, she went to Jiangnan for the first time, which was an eye-opener. After returning to the palace, she still remembers the beautiful scenery of Jiangnan. In the 26th year of Qianlong (176 1), Emperor Qianlong imitated the street view in the south of the Yangtze River on the grounds that the Virgin Mary congratulated him on his seventieth birthday. Starting from Manju, he built a Soviet-style "commercial street" from journey to the south to Haidian Town and Changchun Garden, named "Shang Street" and commonly known as "Suzhou Street". As soon as the old lady thinks of the scenery in Jiangnan, she is very happy to travel here. During the birthday, scenic buildings, stages and pavilions were set up all the way from Xihuamen in the Forbidden City to Dagongmen in Changchun Garden, which made Empress Dowager Cixi very envious. She wanted to imitate it on her 60th birthday.
Since then, Empresses of all dynasties have taken sedan chairs from Xizhimen, boarded ships at Yehongtang Wharf or Leshan Garden, landed on the long river, entered Manjuji Palace for a short rest, and then entered Haidian Town via Suzhou Street for Changchun Garden. It was not until 1860 that the British and French allied forces burned Changchun Garden and Haidian Town and abandoned them. Then it gradually existed in name only.
In recent ten years, with the construction of Zhongguancun Science Park, some buildings and shops have been rebuilt in some areas of Suzhou Street, making the old street gradually prosperous.

During this period, there were various shops on the shore, such as jade antique shops, silk shops, dim sum shops, teahouses and gold and silver jewelry shops. The shop assistants and waiters here are all dressed up as eunuchs and ladies-in-waiting. Whenever emperors, queens, concubines and others come here for sightseeing and shopping, they do a hot "business" in a serious way.
The practice of listing four cities in the imperial palace began in the Han Dynasty. In front of this magnificent Lama Temple, such a beautiful street in the south of the Yangtze River was built, just like a folk temple fair integrating entertainment, food and commerce, which reflected China's unique Qing Palace life and prosperous traditional business culture. Visitors can walk along Suzhou Street in the Summer Palace.
Shore or boat shopping is full of rich fun of antique travel.
2. 1 Suzhou Qitiao Street
Suzhou has beautiful scenery. Among the street names in Beijing, as many as seven are named after Suzhou. Besides Suzhou Street and Zizhuyuan in the Summer Palace, there are five more in the city. There are big Suzhou Hutong and small Suzhou Hutong in Wang Hongbin Street today. It was the Royal East Garden in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the Jinshui River in the Forbidden City flowed into the Changpu River through the Longfei Bridge here. In ancient times, there were exquisite archways and stone bridges, as well as many pavilions and pavilions with good views. Chen Mingyou said in a poem: "The river goes around the Forbidden City, and the years are not remembered. The south wind blows at dusk, and the lotus fragrance sleeps in Bai Ou."
Chongwenmen Inner Street has Suzhou Hutong and Suzhou Lane downhill. In the early Ming Dynasty, it was once a water town in the southeast corner of Beijing. In addition, in the northeast corner of the imperial city of Beijing, there is an alley, also called Little Suzhou Hutong, which used to draw the royal river water in, including rocks and pavilions. Because it has the same name as Wang Hongbin Xiao Su Hutong, it was renamed Yangchun Hutong.
Suzhou Street in front of Manjuji, a famous temple in the west of Beijing, is very famous in Beijing.
Manjuji was built in the fifth year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (1577). According to historical records, it was built by the mother of Emperor Wanli with huge investment. Its address is five miles outside Xizhimen. Manzuji is one of the largest temples in the capital. At its peak, the temple occupied more than four hectares, with thousands of monks at its peak. There are three courtyards, the atrium is a temple, and the main hall is called Dayanshou Hall, which is dedicated to the three buddhas, followed by the Heavenly King Hall, the Bell and Drum Tower in front, and Ning 'an Pavilion, the Monument Pavilion and the Lou Jing. Today, the Yongle Bell in Dazhong Temple was also hung here in its early years. The East Courtyard is the abbot's courtyard, where monks live, and the West Courtyard is the palace and the auspicious place for the emperor. Emperor Kangxi, Qianlong and other feudal emperors in the Qing Dynasty all went to Xishan in those days. When they left Xizhimen, they took the white stone bridge and took the dragon boat instead. When they arrived at Manjuki's pier, the emperor went to Manjuki's palace, or rested, drank tea and ate, or stayed to listen to monks chanting scriptures and Buddha. Empress Dowager Cixi visited the Summer Palace many times. At the northern end of the West Courtyard, there is a pavilion rich in China ethnic style, which is said to be the dresser of the Western Empress Dowager. Baoxia, verandas, pavilions, strange rocks, and strange peaks are all kinds of beautiful scenery.
Emperor Qianlong visited Jiangnan several times and was very fond of Suzhou scenery, ranking first in the world. The twenty-sixth year of Qianlong (176 1) is the seventieth birthday of Qianlong's mother. Monks in Manzuji want to read the Immortality Sutra for the Empress Dowager. The emperor ordered many houses to be built on the banks of the Yu He River in front of Manjuji, imitating the streets and alleys of the southern style market. These streets and alleys were several miles long and were named Suzhou Street for sightseeing. Yu He River comes from Yuquan, which is clear and transparent. The water is as clear as a mirror, and the fish jumps over the stone, giving you a panoramic view. Planting trees on both sides of the strait, weeping willows hanging straight from the water, famous flowers and beautiful trees, competing for each other. There are also two exquisite and beautiful stone bridges in front of the temple, from which you can swim and still enter the fairyland. The establishment of China Modern Literature Museum and Beijing Art Museum here today will not only greatly promote the study of modern literature and art in China, but also benefit the reference and prosperity of contemporary literature and art, and will also be of great benefit to the protection of ancient temples and cultural relics.
