International Biodiversity Day (also known as International Biodiversity Day) is in view of the importance of public education and raising people's ecological awareness for the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity at all levels. On February 20, 2000, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 55/20 1, declaring May 22 every year, the day when the Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted, as the International Day.
The importance of biodiversity:
Biodiversity refers to the diversity of all life forms, levels and combinations on the earth. Simply put, biodiversity is the overall diversity and variability of organisms and their systems. Biodiversity includes three levels: genetic diversity, species diversity and ecosystem diversity.
Biological invasion refers to the entry of alien organisms into another area, because there are no natural enemies in this area, which will quickly breed and form a population, break the balance of the local ecosystem and pose a threat to the survival of local species. Biological invasion is the destruction of biodiversity.
Biodiversity is the result of the development and evolution of life on earth after billions of years, and it is the material basis for human survival and sustainable development. It provides all human food and important industrial raw materials, such as wood, fiber, oil and rubber. Most of Chinese medicine comes from biology. Up to now, there are more than 30,000 kinds of organisms directly and indirectly used in medicine.
It can be said that protecting biodiversity is the cornerstone of protecting human survival and social development, and the foundation of protecting human cultural diversity, that is, protecting human beings themselves.
However, with the pollution and destruction of the environment, such as deforestation, vegetation destruction, indiscriminate hunting, and indiscriminate logging, the biological species in the world are disappearing at a rate of one per hour. And once the species disappears, it will not regenerate. The disappearance of species will not only make human beings lose a natural resource, but also cause a chain reaction through the biological chain, affecting the survival of other species.
3.5 billion years ago, since life appeared on the earth, new species have been produced and extinct. Up to now, there are about 3 million-10/00000 species on the earth, and there are150000 species recorded, only a small part of which has been studied and utilized by human beings.
China is a country rich in biodiversity. Take higher plants as an example, there are about 30,000 species. The treaty between the United States and Canada is10.8 million species, and there are10.2 million species in Europe.
