1on February 27th, 956, Mao Zedong emphasized at the Supreme State Conference that "the whole party should mobilize and the whole people should mobilize to eliminate schistosomiasis" and wrote the eradication of schistosomiasis into Article 40 of the agricultural development program. In the same year, a leading group for schistosomiasis control was established in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and a large number of medical teams were sent to the epidemic areas to carry out schistosomiasis control.
This work has achieved remarkable results. The people of yujiang county County in the epidemic area put forward the slogan of "prepare for half a year, fight for half a year, and wrap up for half a year" to give full play to their enthusiasm and fight against the plague. Vigorously build water conservancy projects, fill gullies and eradicate breeding grounds for schistosomiasis. It took only two years to eradicate schistosomiasis.
On June 30th, 1958, People's Daily reported the news on the front page, and published an editorial entitled "The First Red Flag-A Documentary of the Complete Eradication of Schistosomiasis in yujiang county County, Jiangxi Province". Mao Zedong was so happy after reading that he stayed up all night. The next morning, he wrote these two poems, and described the happy mood when he wrote them with a beautiful paragraph under the names of the poems.
