The Yellow Scarf Uprising was a peasant war at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty and one of the largest religious uprisings in the history of China.
Beginning in the seventh year of the Han Dynasty (A.D. 184), the imperial court was corrupt, the eunuchs and consorts fought constantly, the frontier wars continued, the country became weaker and weaker, and taxes were not reduced because of the drought.
Desperate poor peasants rose up in succession under the command of Zhang Jiao, a giant deer man. With yellow turbans tied to their heads, they shouted the slogan "Heaven will die, the yellow sky will stand, and the world will be fine at the age of 60" and launched a fierce attack on bureaucratic landlords.
It also had a great influence on the rule of the Eastern Han Dynasty. In order to quell the rebellion, all localities supported troops with self-respect. Although the uprising ended in failure, the situation of warlordism and the existence of the Eastern Han Dynasty was irreversible, and finally the situation of the three countries was formed.
At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the political situation was unstable, the consorts were dictatorial and the eunuchs were authoritarian. The war with Xiqiang lasted for decades, which cost a lot of money and made the corvee's military service burden heavy.
In addition, the phenomenon of land annexation is serious, and the people are in dire straits. In addition, in ancient society, people all had religious beliefs. Zhang Jiao took this opportunity, combined with the contents of the wonderful book Taiping Shu Yao, to help the people with his own medical skills, and vigorously promoted "Heaven dies, Huang Tian should stand, and the world will do anything."
Zhang Jiao won the support of many people, but in the current court, the people have long lost their trust.
In this case, Zhang Jiao founded Taiping Road, which won people's hearts by religious means and established prestige among poor farmers, with hundreds of thousands of believers.
Taking advantage of his prestige among the people, he divided the believers in Qing, Xu, You, Ji, Jing, Yang, Yan and Yu into 36 factions. More than 10,000 people are generous, and six or seven thousand people are small; Both sides have their own commanders, unified command, preparing for a large-scale uprising, with the intention of overthrowing the Han Dynasty and establishing a new world ruled by the Yellow Scarf Army.
Although the uprising was suppressed by the imperial court of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the prestige of the Han Dynasty suffered a serious blow. However, Emperor Han Ling did not change, but continued to enjoy himself. Small-scale rebellions have been taking place in various places, resulting in many scattered forces, including Heishan, Huanglong, Zuojiao, Qingniujiao, Yougen, Li, Zuozhuazhangba, Kubi, Liu, Pinghan, Dahong, Bailao, Yuancheng, Luoshi and Leigong. The Burglar headed by Zhang Yan claims to have millions of followers.
In the fifth year of Zhong Ping (A.D. 188), the Yellow Scarf Department launched an uprising again.
In February, Guo Tai was equal to Xihe White Trough, attacking Taiyuan County and Hedong County. In April, the runan county Gepi Yellow Scarf Army rose again and attacked no county. In October, the yellow turban insurrectionary thieves started in Qingzhou and Xuzhou, looting counties.
In November, Han Ting sent a bag to ask for the best Gebei yellow scarf. The two sides fought in Gebei and were defeated. The various ministries of the Yellow turban insurrectionary rose one after another. Although the momentum was not as great as that of the first Yellow turban insurrectionary uprising, it was a headache for the Han Dynasty.
In order to suppress the uprising effectively, in March of the fifth year (A.D. 188), Emperor Ling accepted the suggestion that part of the secretariat should be changed into a state shepherd, and the imperial clan or etiquette should be given the local military and political power, so as to strengthen the strength of local political power, control the place more easily and effectively suppress the remnants of the Yellow Scarf.
It is precisely because of the decentralization of Emperor Ling of the Han Dynasty that local troops have rallied to compete for the Central Plains. Even the emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty appeared to have nothing in the hands of warlords, so the Yellow Scarf Uprising was the fuse of the demise of the Eastern Han Dynasty and the prelude to the Three Kingdoms period. Even so, the chaos created the Amnesty Party, which enabled many literati and officials to be re-appointed.
