Socrates
Related introduction:
Socrates was a famous thinker, philosopher, educator and citizen juror in ancient Greece. Socrates, his student Plato, and Plato's student Aristotle are known as the "Three Sages of Ancient Greece" and are widely considered by later generations to be the founders of Western philosophy.
Socrates regarded himself as a gift and a messenger given by God to the Athenians. His task was to find people to talk to, discuss problems, and explore the truth and wisdom that are most useful to people all day long. Therefore, he spent most of his life outdoors and liked to talk about various issues with people from all walks of life in public places such as markets, sports fields, and streets.
Extended information
Socrates advocated that people understand the principles of life and live a moral life. He defined philosophy as "the love of wisdom." One of his important points is that he knows that he is ignorant.
Socrates believed that the definition of a philosopher should be a person who loves wisdom, not a person with wisdom. Later generations called Socrates' philosophy "ethical philosophy." He created a new field for philosophical research and brought philosophy "from heaven back to earth", which is of great significance in the history of philosophy.
