It originated from the workers' strike in Chicago, USA.
On May 1886, 1 day, more than 0.6 million workers in Chicago went on strike to implement the eight-hour working system. After a hard and bloody struggle, they finally won.
In order to commemorate this great workers' movement, in July 1889, the Second International announced that May 1 day every year would be designated as International Labor Day.
