Feng Shui is a mysterious and mysterious thing. It can be said that "it is better to believe that it exists than to believe that it does not exist." Zeng Guofan was originally a full-fledged Neo-Confucianist. However, when he heard the story of his great-grandfather, he had to believe in the magic of Feng Shui.
Zeng Guofan was born in Hunan's "Dajie Zeng family". This family has been farming for generations and has never produced any prominent figures. Zeng Guofan's great-grandfather was named Zeng Jingxi, and he was just an ordinary farmer. When Zeng Guofan was 5 years old, Zeng Jingxi died, and he randomly found a place in Taixichong, Shenchong, Heye Town, and was buried there.
Overall, the place where Zeng Jingxi was buried resembled a chicken, with the grave on its head. Behind the tomb is a long and narrow mountainous area, like a chicken's neck. Behind the long and narrow mountain, there is another oblong hill, like a chicken body; on both sides of the oblong hill, there are two fan-shaped mountains, just like chicken wings. In front of the chicken head is a small river called "Plowhead Tsui". There is a fertile field by the river.
On the night after the burial, there was a sudden shower in the area. The rain was very heavy and fast. The rain lasted for three days, causing A flash flood occurred. The crops and soil in the field in front of "Chicken Head" were washed away by the water, and the field was filled with white sand and fine stones. After the rain stopped, a Feng Shui master happened to pass by Zeng Jingxi's tomb. He took out his compass and looked at the Feng Shui of the cemetery. He couldn't help but be shocked: "The descendants of the owner of this tomb will have endless blessings!"
It turns out that Zeng Jingxi’s tomb inadvertently created the top Feng Shui - the golden rooster pecking at the rice. Mr. Feng Shui then told the Zeng family to protect this cemetery and it would be best to buy the field in front of the tomb.
Soon after, things turned out really well for the Zeng family. Zeng Jingxi's grandson Zeng Linshu, Zeng Guofan's father, is a 43-year-old boy who took the exam 16 times and still failed. After his grandfather was buried, he took the 17th quiz and was finally possessed by Wenquxing, becoming the first scholar of the "Great World Zeng Family" in hundreds of years.
Subsequently, the Zeng family was out of control, and many big figures emerged at once. Within 50 years, two Jinshi scholars, Zeng Guofan and Zeng Guangjun, were produced, and there were even more scholars, outstanding tributes, and scholars. There are more than 20 people, and there are still many Zeng celebrities today, active in scientific research, education and other fields.
In his early years, Zeng Guofan did not believe in the art of Feng Shui. He believed that Feng Shui was just superstition and not worth mentioning. But after his grandmother was buried, Zeng Guofan became a complete "feng shui fan". It turned out that after his grandmother was buried, Zeng Guofan had a lot of good luck. Not only was he promoted to the second rank, but his grandfather, who had been suffering from a long-term illness, was also cured. It is said that this is the place where my grandmother was buried. In a letter from his family, Zeng Guofan said that his grandmother’s graveyard “has good Feng Shui and must not be reburied. If it is reburied, it would be unlucky and extremely unfilial.” It is for this reason that “the Feng Shui is the least believed in”. Zeng Guofan became superstitious about the art of public opinion.
After that, Zeng Guofan chose a cemetery for himself in Jinpenling, Hunan. Why did you choose this place? There used to be a Tongxi Temple near this mountain. It was named after the dense tung trees behind the mountain, the gurgling water in front of the temple, the beautiful mountains and clear waters, and the elegant environment. Tongxi Temple was formerly known as "Xingguo Temple". It is said that it was founded by Zen Master Zhenlang of the Tang Dynasty. After the temple was destroyed, it was rebuilt in the Song Dynasty and was named "Fulong Temple". By the end of the Ming Dynasty, the temple was destroyed again. In the Qing Dynasty, Zen Master Jingtianyan Yingshi raised funds to rebuild the temple and renamed it "Tongxi Temple". At that time, Zeng Guofan was defeated by the Taiping Army and felt depressed. He relaxed here and received guidance from the abbot of the local temple, and his mood suddenly became brighter. Therefore, Zeng Guofan hoped that he could be buried here a hundred years later.
Zeng Guofan did not rest for a long time after being buried in Jinpenling. In fact, it was only a temporary rest. Two years after the burial, his great-wife Mrs. Ouyang passed away, and his eldest son Zeng Jize moved his father to be buried together with his mother in the sun of Fulong Mountain in Xiangxi, Shanhua County, which is now south of Fulong Mountain in Tongxi Village, Pingtang Town, Wangcheng County. Later, the mountain was renamed. Lion Peak.
Since then, Zeng Guofan's tomb has been robbed many times, but because the tomb was well built, it was not seriously damaged.
It is said that "one fate, two luck and three feng shui". Judging from the prosperity of the Zeng family, in addition to personal efforts, something similar to metaphysics seems to really play a great role.
