The key to learning the knowledge of sages is to practice every sentence we learn. Therefore, the important thing about learning from the sages is not the time, but whether you practice according to the wisdom of the sages. In addition to practicing, learning also requires sequence.
It is said in the Three-Character Classic that "a scholar must have a beginning" and "the primary school ends with the Four Books." The "Primary School" here is a children's education book compiled by Zhu Xi. The book teaches children how to be filial to their parents. How to respect the elders and how to deal with the etiquette in the whole life. It has been almost a thousand years ago. Why is it so important to study "Primary School"? Because we need to lay down the foundation of being a person and doing things since we were young. When we read other scriptures, we not only read them, but also learn them. Know how to implement it in getting along with others, and also know how to implement it in life.
But because this book is a long time ago, we don’t understand many terms. "Disciple Regulations" was compiled by Master Li Yuxiu of the Qing Dynasty. Based on the most important content of "Primary School" and grasping its program, "Disciples Regulations" is completely consistent with our lives, and no sentence is impossible.
It is also based on an important teaching from Confucius in the Analects of Confucius: "Disciples should be filial when they enter, and be friendly when they leave. The method of learning should grasp eight words, "Go deep into one subject and practice it for a long time." This branch refers to the teachings taught to us by Chinese sages. If we use two words, it is "morality". The word morality is the entire program of thousands of years of teachings by sages. Understanding the laws of nature that transcend time and space is Tao, and teaching humans how to obey the laws of nature and be a human being without violating them is called virtue.
"Tao" is the law of nature that transcends time and space, commonly known as the "Dao of Ethics". Among the five ethical relationships, the most important one is the relationship between husband and wife. "The way of a gentleman begins with the relationship between husband and wife." Therefore, the relationship between husband and wife has a profound impact. Because couples living in the same room, if they live in harmony and the children grow up in such a family environment, the relationship between father and son will naturally be close, and if the relationship between husband and wife is good, brothers will also be harmonious.
