Confucius said in the Analects of Confucius: "If parents are here, they will swim well if they don't travel far." How to understand and evaluate this famous saying? There are different views in China academic circles and even among ordinary people. When reading the Analects of Confucius, Mr. Li Zehou said: "Today, some people think that this language is no longer applicable, and others still think that it is applicable, because there are fast means of transportation such as airplanes and cars, although it is far away (geographical location) and not far away (round-trip time is shortened). In fact, what is important is that Confucius is very practical and specific about benevolence and filial piety. For example, the key point here is not not not to travel far, but not to let parents miss too much, to fly high and go far is too difficult, to worry too much about wandering around without direction, and to make parents uneasy, so as to cultivate children's love for their parents. That is, filial piety and benevolence, it is a concrete shaping of emotion rather than an abstract theoretical concept. What matters is this emotional attitude as a son of man. Can young people in China continue to retain this traditional virtue? I am looking forward to it. " Mr. Li Zehou's comments are unique, and he thinks that "parents are there, and it is necessary to travel well if you don't travel far" is a traditional Chinese virtue that should be affirmed and promoted, but some scholars hold a negative attitude towards it. It is considered that "parents are here and don't travel far" is incompatible with today's highly competitive market economy era. In my opinion, it is inappropriate to affirm this sentence of Confucius in an abstract and comprehensive way, or to obliterate it in general. We should adhere to the scientific attitude of seeking truth from facts and conduct a comprehensive historical dialectical analysis.
