Buddha's motto
Tranquility
Let go of the worries of the past, don't worry about the future, don't be attached to the present, and your heart will be peaceful.
Selfish desires
The root of pain is selfish desire. Whether it is the desire for happiness, revenge, or just longing for longevity, it will lead to pain.
Boundage
Greed is the fiercest fire, hatred is the worst attachment, confusion and wrong views are the hardest net to escape, and love is the hardest river to cross.
Insight
Don’t trust your own guesses, don’t believe them just because they agree with you, and don’t trust authority easily.
Wish
Let the infinite love in our hearts spread throughout the world, no matter where it is in the universe, without the slightest obstacle, resentment or hostility.
Love
In this world, hatred can never be stopped with hatred. Hatred can only be stopped with love. This is an eternal truth.
Trouble
Smart people don’t look forward to the future, nor regret the past.
Obstacles
Don’t look down upon small evils and think that I will not receive retribution. The water bottle is filled with small drops of water. Stupid people continue to do small bad things. As time goes by, the whole person becomes full of evil.
Tolerance
Peanuts still emit a pleasant fragrance among the abandoned waste and sludge, just like Buddhist disciples who were born among people with strong sexual desires and can exude The light of wisdom.
Content
Health is the best gift, contentment is the greatest wealth, and confidence is the best character.
Health
There are two kinds of diseases, physical diseases and spiritual diseases. Some people’s bodies seem to be able to stay free of illness for one year, two years or even a hundred or more years. But in this world, except for the saints whose minds are not stained, there are too few people who can not get sick for a moment.
Alms
There are three types of alms: the first is financial alms, the second is alms of truth, and the third is to eliminate the fear of living beings.
Suffering
If you can truly understand the truth of suffering, you can also know the source of suffering, the state without suffering and the way to eliminate suffering.
Treat others
Be enthusiastic and behave politely. As long as you are filled with joy every day, your worries will disappear without a trace
State of mind
When a man speaks and acts with good intentions, happiness follows him like a shadow.
Do good deeds
Don’t underestimate small deeds, thinking that I will not receive retribution. The small drops of water keep falling, and eventually they can fill the entire bottle, so smart people gradually accumulate small deeds. As a result, his whole being was filled with merit.
Wealth
Wealth will destroy stupid people, but it cannot destroy people who want to get rid of troubles. When a stupid person desires wealth, he not only harms himself, but also loses other people.
Confidence
Confidence is the foundation of wisdom and can produce good virtues.
Relief
Meditative concentration does not arise in people who lack wisdom, and wisdom does not arise in people who do not have meditation. With both meditation and wisdom, one is close to the state of being free from worries.
Diligence
From today on, a person should strive to improve his mind, because we never know when we will die.
Education
Of all gifts, the transmission of truth is the most precious. Of all flavors, truth tastes best. Among all joys, the joy of truth is the greatest. By eradicating greed, you can conquer all suffering.
Happiness
Those who do not indulge in indulgences and are not greedy for sensual enjoyment, but who are enthusiastic and often meditate on the truth, can obtain great happiness.
Happiness
Health is the best benefit, and satisfaction is the best wealth. A trustworthy friend is the best relative, and having no worries is the greatest happiness.
Wisdom
Let your old age live as innocently as your childhood, and let your childhood live as calm and steady as your old age. This means: don’t rely on your wisdom. Do not mix arrogance with your humility, and do not let your humility lack wisdom.
Practice
Speaking good words without putting them into practice is fruitless. It is like a beautiful flower that has color but no fragrance.
Save it
Conquering a million-strong army on the battlefield is far inferior to defeating yourself. He who conquers himself is the greatest conqueror.
Words and deeds
Good behavior can help people be born into a better state in the future, and bring them closer to freedom and liberation.
Study
If you don’t study hard in time, you will be lazy when you are young and strong. You will have no goals and ideas in life. Lazy people will never discover the path to wisdom.

Joy and Praise
Bo Da's 'Collection of Sakyamuni's Golden Words' will be published soon. This is certainly exciting news for those who enjoy appreciating his works.
The English part of this book was carefully selected by Bo Da after collecting it for many years; the Chinese part is from his translation. It is both honest and elegant, and many of them are amazing. A stroke of genius.
I think reading this book can have different attitudes: it can be read as a sacred text for cultivating one’s character; it can be read as a pleasant sketch.
I like this book for its small size, rich meaning, conciseness and smoothness, and elegant style. It contains infinite wisdom and can clarify people's inner depression and anxiety; it not only opens people's eyes, but also expands their minds.
I have often heard that drinking tea has many benefits, and Boda's books are worthy of tasting and make people endlessly memorable; these precious words, noble sentiments, and timeless interests contain the wisdom of a philosopher. Pain, silent enlightenment, and an ethereal beauty beyond words, this beauty is the tranquility, wisdom and liberation of Zen.
Reading a good book is like sitting in the spring breeze, refreshing both body and mind. Although I know that silence is better than sound, I can't help but say a few words to express the joy and praise deep in my heart.
Preface by Lin Shimin
Buddha’s mottos
1. Tranquility
1. Tranquility comes from within, don’t seek it outside!
2. Let go of the worries of the past, stop worrying about the future, and stop clinging to the present, and your heart will be peaceful.
3. No jealousy, no greed, no selfish desires. Under all circumstances, keep that peace of mind in your heart. This is noble!
4. Don’t overestimate what you get, and don’t be jealous or envious of others. You won’t get a peaceful mind.
5. When a person tastes the deliciousness of loneliness and tranquility, he will no longer have fear and criminal behavior.
2. Selfish Desire
6. The root of pain is selfish desire. Whether it is the desire for happiness, revenge, or just longevity, it will lead to pain.
7. Desire can lead to pain. The main reason is that desire can never be fully satisfied.
8. From love comes sorrow, from love comes fear. Those who uproot love have neither sorrow nor fear.
3. Bondage
9. It is despicable to be stubborn about a certain thing (or a certain opinion) and despise other things. Wise people call it 'bondage'.
10. People without greed and hatred have no bondage.
11. Greed is the fiercest fire, hatred is the worst attachment, confusion and wrong opinions are the hardest net to escape, and love is the hardest river to cross.
12. A person should abandon anger, uproot arrogance, and transcend all constraints. People who are not attached to spiritual and material things can find true inner peace without being affected by external influences.
13. Smart people say: shackles made of iron, wood and hemp rope are not strong bonds. Being obsessed with jewelry, earrings and wives is the strongest bond.
14. All desires are only a little sweet, but they hide a lot of distress.
15. People who are addicted to love are as frightened as rabbits trapped in a cage. They are bound by restraints and attachments and suffer long-term pain.
16. Those who are trapped by incorrect thoughts and have a strong desire for sensual pleasure will have their desires doubled and increased, and their bondage will become stronger.
4. Insight
17. Don’t make decisions based solely on logic, inference, or the appearance of things.
18. Only when you know that something is indeed imperfect and wrong can you get rid of it. Only when you truly know that something is perfect and correct can you accept it and practice it yourself.
19. Treat unreal things as real, regard real things as unreal, and stay in unreal thoughts, and you will never reach the real state.
20. Wise people are not easily influenced by other people’s ideas.
21. Don’t be swayed by any reports, traditions, or rumors.
22. Don’t trust other people’s rumors, don’t believe rumors, and don’t absolutely trust ordinary books.
23. Don’t trust your own guesses. Don’t believe them just because they agree with you. Don’t trust authority easily.
24. It is inappropriate to judge things impatiently. A wise man should know both right and wrong at the same time.
5. Wishes
25. May all sentient beings be happy, peaceful and content!
26. Let the infinite love in our hearts spread throughout the world - no matter which corner of the universe - without the slightest obstacle, resentment or hostility.
27. May all sentient beings be happy in their hearts. Whether we can see them or not, whether they are far away or nearby, born or not yet born!
28. As long as he is awake, no matter walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, a person should maintain this kind of compassionate mind.
29. May I be generous in giving alms and willing to help others. May I be pure in body and mind, upright, simple and innocent, with good character and free from evil thoughts. May I not be selfish or possessive, but also selfless, even at the expense of my own self. May I be wise enough to tell others the benefits of truth and knowledge.
30. May I work hard and be diligent. May I be tolerant, tolerate and forgive the mistakes of others, and may I keep the promises I make.
Sanyi, I hope I can be resolute and brave, with perseverance and perseverance. May I be kind, kind, and compassionate. May I be humble, peaceful, quiet, composed, and serene. May I be on the path to perfection and serve others with complete joy.
32. May all creatures, animals, and humans be free from any resentment, disease, or sorrow, and may they (it) be happy and protect themselves.
6. Love
33. Let us treat all living creatures with infinite love, just like a loving mother risking her life to protect her only child.
34. In this world, hatred can never be stopped with hatred. Hatred can only be stopped with kindness. This is an eternal truth.
35. Never deceive others and never despise people anywhere. Where there is anger and malice, let us treat them with love so that they will not be harmed in the slightest.
36. Use kindness to change resentment, use kindness to change evil. Use charity to change stinginess, use truth to change lies.
37. All animals are afraid of punishment, and all animals are afraid of death (all animals cherish life). Put yourself in other people's shoes and compare yourself to others. One should not kill animals or instigate others to kill animals.
7. Troubles
38. When a person feels dissatisfied and pursues it deliberately, he becomes a slave of love and thirst.
39. People who look for faults in others and get angry easily will suffer more and more. I am getting farther and farther away from the realm of no worries.
40. Smart people don’t expect the future, nor regret the past.
41. Winners attract resentment, losers live in misery. A peaceful person gives up victory and defeat, so he is peaceful and happy.
42. If you often think about the source of distress, be good at restraining your senses, eat in moderation, and be confident and energetic, you will not be defeated by evil spirits, just like a mountain rock will not be shaken by the wind.
43. The following situation usually occurs: when a person has experienced treatment by a bad doctor, he no longer trusts even the good doctor.
44. Through faith, good virtue, hard work, meditation, and observation and experience of the truth, understanding and practice go hand in hand, and you can get rid of big troubles by always thinking correctly.
8. Obstacles
45. Every crime causes more harm to the perpetrator than to the victim.
46. Don’t look down upon small evils and think that I will not receive retribution. The water bottle is filled with small drops of water. Foolish people continue to do small bad things. As time goes by, the whole person becomes full of evil.
47. There are five obstacles to bright perception: greed, hatred, sleep and drowsiness, restlessness and worry, and doubt.
48. When sinful deeds have not yet matured (have not yet produced results), foolish people regard sinful deeds as sweet. But when his behavior matures, he has sadness.
49. People who have no faith, are disloyal, love to lie, and do not consider the afterlife will be likely to do all kinds of evil things.
50. Before the evil deeds are immature, the evildoers always think that they have done a perfect job, but when the evil deeds mature, the evildoers will experience bad consequences.
Smart people will never appreciate these four evil things: May Day, killing, stealing, lying, and sexual immorality.
52. Lying is the root of evil. It makes a person live in a bad state, causing a bad taste in his mouth. What he says is not liked by others, and he is despised by others.
53. All living beings long for peace and happiness. Those who kill sentient beings with the rod in order to seek their own happiness will have no peace in the future.
54. Unchastity is the dirt of a woman, stinginess is the dirt of giving. All bad words, deeds and thoughts become dirt in this life and the hereafter.
55. Greed, hatred and ignorance are the three major dirts in the mind. Killing, stealing, and sexual immorality are the three major defilements of the body. Sowing discord (spreading trouble), using foul language, lying, and sweet words are the four major stains in language.
56. When a person does evil, his mind is stained. When a person does not do evil, his heart is pure. The purity and dirt are entirely your own, and no one else can help.
9. Sorrow
57. People who are obsessed with themselves will have their minds disturbed. People who only think about themselves will bring sorrow to themselves.
58. People who are not greedy for anything will have no suffering. That's why I say that in this state there is no sorrow, no intense passion, and no disappointment.
59. If you covet a hundred things, you will have a hundred sufferings; if you covet ninety, ten, or five things, if you covet two things, you will have ninety, ten, or five One, two worries.
60. The world is constantly changing, and it is not permanent.
61. Everything must be destroyed after birth.
62. Birth, old age, illness, death, sadness and disappointment, being with people you don’t like, and insatiable desires, these are the attributes of existence that are suffering!
63. Aging and death drive away the life of all living beings, just like a shepherd driving his cattle to the pasture with a stick in his hand.
June 4th, change and impermanence are the characteristics of life.
65. Impermanence is a kind of (very subtle) suffering.
Translation Note: Anything that is not eternal will eventually deteriorate, change, and disappear. So only those with keen senses can detect its imperfections.
66. Even when a person is happy, this happiness still cannot last forever.
67. ‘All conditioned things are impermanent. ’ When a person observes this truth with wisdom, he will begin to be disgusted with all kinds of suffering. This is the way to achieve purity.
68. If you can truly understand the truth of suffering, you will be able to know the source of suffering, the state without suffering and the way to eliminate suffering.
10. Treat others
69. Treat others with enthusiasm and behave gracefully. As long as you are filled with joy every day, your worries will disappear without a trace.
70. Emotions are produced by past fate and present love, just like lotus flowers are bred from water and soil.
71. In order to pursue happiness and build happiness on the pain of others, you will be troubled by resentment and cannot get rid of resentment.
72. Treat everyone equally, regardless of whether they are rich or poor or noble or humble.
73. Visiting patients should make them full of hope and happiness.
74. People love those who are loyal to the truth, have a good attitude, keep their word, and are responsible for their positions.
75. A husband should treat his wife in the following five ways: First, praise the other person’s strengths. Second, never underestimate each other. Third, be loyal to her. Fourth, grant authority to handle housework. Fifth, always give her exquisite clothes.
76. A wife should treat her husband in the following five ways: First, handle the housework in an orderly manner. Second, help the husband’s relatives. Third, be loyal to your husband. Fourth, manage and save your husband’s salary wisely. Fifth, be diligent but not lazy.
77. There are four principles for serving the society: giving generously; speaking considerately; cooperating with each other; and behaving seasonally and courteously. These four principles are like the axles of a car that make the wheels turn.
78. People who serve the society are easy to get along with others, willing to help others and understand their needs, and teach others generously and patiently. Such kind people will definitely be rewarded well in the future.
79. You must be patient, loving, and enthusiastic about service.
11. State of mind
80. When a person's speech and behavior have good motives, happiness will follow him like a shadow.
81. All realms are guided by the heart. The heart is the master, and all realms are created by the heart. If a man speaks and acts with a unclean heart, trouble will immediately follow him, like a chariot wheel following the hoofs of an ox.
82. How happy it is to be in contact with worldly things, without being tempted, without sorrow, without flaws, and with a peaceful mind!
83. Smart people always clear away the dirt in their hearts, just like a craftsman cleaning out impurities in silver mines.
84. Prevent the anger of the mind, control the wandering mind, abandon evil thoughts, and sincerely follow the right path.
85. Disciples of Gautama (Sakyamuni's surname): You must wake up well and always think of the perfect saint, Buddha, no matter day or night.
12. Do good deeds
86. Do good deeds in time to avoid bad thoughts in your mind. Anyone who procrastinates doing good deeds will not easily be able to insulate themselves from evil deeds.
87. Death is inevitable in life, so you should do more good deeds while you are still alive, just like making many wreaths from a bunch of flowers.
88. Don’t underestimate small kindness and think that I will not receive retribution. The small drops of water keep falling, and eventually they can fill the entire bottle, so a wise person gradually accumulates small good deeds, and his whole person is filled with merit.
89. Be tolerant among impatient people, be gentle among violent people, and be generous among greedy people.
90. Do not do any bad deeds, cultivate all good deeds, and purify your mind. This is the teaching of the Buddha.
13. Practice
91. Saying good words without putting them into practice is fruitless. It is like a beautiful flower that has color but no fragrance.
92. Although there are not many holy scriptures to read and recite, if you follow the teachings, get rid of greed, hatred and ignorance, have correct wisdom, have no worries in your heart, and not be greedy for this life and the next life, this is enlightenment. The implementer of the mind.
93. When teaching others, you should first set an example. Only after you have restrained yourself can you restrain others. It’s really hard to restrain yourself!
Ninety-four, do not speak harsh words, do not harm all sentient beings, practice the precepts according to the Buddha's admonitions, eat in moderation, live in a peaceful place, and concentrate on noble awareness. This is the Buddha's Teaching.
95. It is of no benefit to a stupid person to gain knowledge and fame. It will not only damage his happiness, but also make him self-willed.
96. It is better to read and recite a thousand useless words than to hear only one useful word that brings peace to people.
97. Flowers with bright colors and beautiful colors but no fragrance will not bring much happiness to the people you wear them; hearing good words but not practicing them will not bring much benefit.
14. Save your mistakes
98. You should not find fault with others and criticize others for what they have done and what they have not done. You should always reflect on your mistakes and consider what you have done and what you have not done.
Ninety-nine, a wise man reviews his own words and deeds every day.
100. Conquering a million-strong army on the battlefield is far inferior to defeating yourself. He who conquers himself is the greatest conqueror.
101. It is indeed nobler to conquer yourself than to conquer others!
102. It is easy to discover the faults of others, but it is difficult to detect your own faults. It is as easy to spread the fault of others as to throw away the rice husk. But hiding one's shortcomings is as cunning as a gambler hiding his dice.
103. Know your own weaknesses and strive to improve them.
104. If a person changes his past and starts doing good deeds, it is like the bright moon that is not covered by dark clouds and can illuminate the earth.
105. You should have the courage to admit your mistakes to others!
106. Repentance includes reform!
15. Words and deeds
107. One's own actions lead to bad results, just like when iron becomes rusty, it will be corroded by rust.
108. Behavior makes the difference between lowly and noble beings. Translator's Note: The so-called 'behavior' here includes three types: thoughts, words, and body movements.
109. Good behavior can help people be born into a better realm in the future, and bring them closer to freedom and liberation.
110. Those who have good moral character and superb knowledge, live according to the teachings revealed by the perfect saint, understand the truth, and are serious and responsible will always be loved by everyone.
One by one, I not only teach external behaviors, but also pay more attention to inner thoughts and thoughts... I not only teach my disciples not to show bad actions physically, nor to think or talk about bad things. and unsound things. …Also I teach my disciples to behave well, think and speak sound things.
112. When a person speaks, one should avoid criticizing others with harsh words.
113. If you speak in a measured manner, speak tactfully, and make sense, then what you say will be beautiful and pleasant.
114. Don’t speak ill of others behind their backs.
16. Learning
115. People who do not learn are like old cows. Although they have a lot of meat, they have no wisdom.
116. Always get close to wise people, wise men, knowledgeable people, loyal and enthusiastic people, conscientious people, saints - always associate with these people who have both wisdom and virtue.
117. Being greedy for sleep, loving to chat, not interested in what you are learning, lazy in doing things, impatient and impatient...are the major factors leading to degeneration.
118. If you don’t study hard in time, you will be lazy when you are young and strong. You will have no goals and ideas in life. A lazy person will never discover the path to wisdom.
17. Education
119. Teachers should study the psychological tendencies of students before explaining.
120. Education should match the ability of the recipients and the appropriate timing!
121. One should use sincere and compassionate words.
122. A good teacher should speak to the point and avoid talking about irrelevant things.
123. Among all gifts, the transmission of truth is the most precious. Of all flavors, truth tastes best. Of all joys, the joy of truth is the greatest. By eradicating greed, you can conquer all suffering.
Eighteen. Happiness
124. Those who do not indulge in indulgence and are not greedy for sensual enjoyment. Those who are enthusiastic and often meditate on the truth can obtain great happiness.
125. Only when you don’t harbor any hatred among people full of resentment can you live a happy life.
126. There are two extremes that practitioners should not do. What are these two extremes? "Sensual pleasure" is vulgar, vulgar, vulgar, and obscene, and can cause damage to the body and mind; "self-torture" is painful, despicable, and can also cause harm to the body and mind. However, the 'middle way' discovered by the perfect saint avoids the above two extremes, and brings you keen insight and knowledge, guiding you towards peace, wisdom, enlightenment and eternal happiness.
127. People who maintain good moral character into old age are happy, and people with strong faith are also happy. A person who has gained wisdom is happy, and a person who does not do evil is also happy.
19. Happiness
128. Happiness lies in the realization of wishes, and in having only noble wishes.
129. Trust yourself. Besides yourself, who else can you rely on?
130. Man is the master of his own destiny.
131. Health is the best benefit; satisfaction is the best wealth. A trustworthy friend is the best relative; having no worries is the greatest happiness.
132. A person's thoughts are extremely subtle and difficult to detect, but smart people are good at guarding the thoughts that are about to stir up. A guarded heart can lead to happiness.
One, three, three, ah! Without all attachments and worries, our lives can be happy, just like the gods of Guangyin Heaven who feed on joy.
134. Giving generously, behaving appropriately, helping relatives, and acting without shame - this is the greatest happiness.
135. Honor your parents, love your wife, and have a stable career is great happiness.
20. Wisdom
136. Understanding sacred and eternal things can be properly called ‘wisdom’, while understanding of worldly things is nothing more than ‘knowledge’.
137. Everything in the universe is formed for a reason. The perfect saint not only explains the cause of creation, but also explains the annihilation of each thing.
138. Not knowing the truth of suffering, the cause of suffering, the state of eliminating suffering and the method of eliminating suffering - this is called "ignorance".
139. There are three forms of mental training: the first is the training of noble morals, the second is the training of superb thinking, and the third is the training of advanced understanding.
140. Let your old age be as innocent and romantic as your childhood, and let your childhood be as calm and steady as your old age. This means: don’t mix arrogance with your wisdom. Nor let your humility be devoid of wisdom.
141. Wisdom comes from meditation. Without meditation, great wisdom cannot be produced.
142. If a person lives a hundred years without true wisdom and cannot discipline himself, it would be better to live only one day and have wisdom and calmness.
21. Tolerance
143. If someone says bad things about you, you do not need to be malicious, resentful, contemptuous or dissatisfied with them.
144. If you harbor resentment, it will not only hinder your mental development, but also prevent you from judging whether the remarks are right or wrong.
145. At the same time, if others give me a high hat and praise my teachings and monks too much, don't be too proud, because this will also damage your inner (mental) development. You should accept the truth and show them the actual situation.
146. The lotus flower is still emitting a pleasant fragrance among the abandoned waste and mud, just like a Buddhist disciple who is born among people with strong sexual desire and can emit the light of wisdom. .
147. It is not just today, it has been said as early as ancient times: Those who are silent will be slandered; those who talk too much will be slandered; those who talk too little will also be slandered; There is no one in the world who is not slandered.
22. Contentment
148. Don’t expect unfair achievements.
149. Health is the best gift, contentment is the greatest wealth, and confidence is the best character.
150. Live a simple life, control your desires and reduce your needs. In this moderate life without worries, you will be able to find satisfaction.
151. Even if it rains gold from the sky, it still cannot satisfy the desires of the senses. There is no pleasure in sensual desires, only pain.
152. People always give alms according to their own confidence and preferences. Being jealous of other people's food and possessions brings no peace day or night.
Twenty-three. Health
153. Greed, hatred and ignorance are the three major elements of disease.
. . . . . . . . .
