Guqin has three timbres: scattered tone, stressed tone and overtone. We have learned the first two timbres in the previous lesson, and we will learn overtones in this lesson. In China's traditional piano theory, scattered sounds are like the ground and overtones are like the sky. The scattered sound needs to be solid, powerful and thick, and the overtone needs to be transparent, full and round.
When practicing overtones, keep your eyes on the overtones as much as possible, press a string with your right hand, and your hands will cooperate automatically; The right hand should keep the method of exerting force when practicing scattered sound at ordinary times, and it is not affected by the left hand; The left hand needs to be stretched horizontally, the third finger in the middle of the name can touch the string with the belly of the finger, and the big finger can touch the string with the right side. When the name refers to playing below the Nine Emblems, you can also touch the strings with the left side. As shown in the figure below:
Fingering essentials: overtones can be pronounced in two ways. The first way is that the fingers of the left hand float in the place where the strings are perpendicular to the Qin Hui (overtone point), and it is appropriate to stick the strings on the fingertips. Then at the moment when the right hand plucks the strings, the fingers of the left hand are quickly lifted off the strings, so that a bright overtone can be emitted. This method is called the floating flower potential of butterfly, and its key lies in the time when the left hand is raised. If you mention it too early, it will become scattered, and if you mention it too late, the sound will be eliminated a lot.
Be careful not to lift your fingers too high, two or three centimeters is enough. When lifting, only finger, and do not move the whole hand or arm together. There is also the position where the left hand touches the string must be accurate. A slight deviation from the overtone point will lead to inaccurate overtone or insufficient vibration. Especially under the Nine Emblems, people's eyes have a parallax, so beginners must understand it carefully.
