What are some of Gu Long’s novels?

Gu Long grew up in a broken family. His parents divorced in 1952, and Gu Long lived alone in Ruifang Town, Taipei County, which resulted in his prodigal personality. When he was a boy, he was fond of reading ancient and modern martial arts novels and Western literary works. Gu Long said, "I like to steal from modern Japanese and Western novels." He began to write novels and published his first short story in 1949. In 1960, he began to write the martial arts novel "Sword of the Sky". At that time, Wo Longsheng, Zhuge Qingyun, and Sima Ling were famous in Taiwan's chivalry circles. The publication of "Huan Hua Xi Sword" in 1964 was a milestone in Gu Long's martial arts novels and represented the mature period of his martial arts creation. "The Legend of Iron Blood" (the first three Chu Liuxiang legends) written in 1967 combines martial arts, literature, detectives, and reasoning, and reads like "Sherlock Holmes." He wrote a large number of martial arts novels throughout his life, including "The Sword of Flowers", "The Legend of Chu Liuxiang", "The Sentimental Swordsman" (the original work of the Hong Kong TVB TV series "Little Li Fei Dao"), "The Two Prides", "Xiao Xiao" Works such as "Eleventh Man", "Seven Weapons", "The Legend of Lu Xiaofeng", "The Third Young Master's Sword", "Happy Hero", "White Jade Tiger", etc. are widely welcomed by readers. In the late period of his creation, he still continued to seek changes, saying many times that "it's time for martial arts novels to change"; he once incorporated prose syntax into novels and wrote novels such as "End of the World, Bright Moon, and Knife". However, such works are not appreciated by readers and critics. Gu Long was addicted to alcohol and drank frequently. He contracted liver disease in 1977 and his health gradually declined. In 1980, he was stabbed while having a banquet at Yinsong Pavilion in Beitou and lost 2,000cc of blood. In May 1982, Gu Long signed a two-year producer contract with China Television. He passed away on September 21, 1985 at the age of 48 due to massive bleeding from an esophageal tumor caused by liver cirrhosis. During his funeral, his friend Lin Qingxuan placed 48 bottles of XO wine (whiskey) in his coffin to accompany him. One of the elegiac couplets is: "Xiao Li's flying knife became a dead ring/Chu Liuxiang is not seen in the world." Gu Long had many love affairs during his lifetime. When he was a student, he lived with the dancer Zheng Lili. Later, he fell in love with the dancer Ye Xue. Soon after, he married Mei Baozhu, a high school student, and finally ended in divorce. His second wife was Yu Xiuling, who has been with him ever since. Gu Long died of illness. Ding Qing, Gu Long's eldest disciple, said: "Because Gu Daxia was lonely, he pursued novelty, so his marriage could not last long. Gu Daxia was a prodigal by nature." Gu Long and 48 bottles of XO*** were buried in the North End of Taipei Died in Haimingshan Cemetery, Beihai. After Gu Long's death, the copyright dispute over the novel began to be heard by the court. In 2005, Tamkang University in Taiwan held the 9th International Academic Symposium on Literature and Aesthetics, with the theme of martial arts novels and a focus on Gu Long's works. Later, Lin Baochun compiled a collection of essays, published by Student Bookstore: "The Proud Genius - Ancient Dragon: Proceedings of the International Academic Symposium on Ancient Dragons and Martial Arts Novels" (ISBN 9571512974). In terms of film and television adaptations, many of Gu Long's novels are highly favored by directors and have been continuously adapted into television and movies, including "Chu Liuxiang", "Sentimental Swordsman", "Peerless Two Prides", "Lu Xiaofeng", etc. During the Shaw Brothers era, Chu Yuan photographed the most Gu Long works.

Romantic History

-------------

Gu Long is really not amazing in appearance, he only had " Big head" nickname. For those young girls, sometimes peerless talent and masculine charm are more fascinating to them. People at the time lamented that there was a woman hidden behind every book written by Gu Long. But Gu Long was lonely, and the woman failed to save him. On the contrary, he paid the due price for her.

Gu Long’s martial arts novels have a large sales volume and are widely circulated. It seems that only Jin Yong can compare with him. Even people who don’t read novels often see Gu Long’s stories on and off the screen. The number of novels adapted into movies and TV series is only comparable to that of Jin Yong. The song "Little Lee Flying Knives" (the theme song of the TV series adapted from "The Sentimental Swordsman") has become a household name in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. There was a time when singers went to Southeast Asia to perform on stage. If they didn't sing this song, the audience would boo.

It’s so tiring that even Taiwanese singers have to practice all night long to sing this Cantonese song even if their accent is wrong.

When it comes to the number of creations, only Ni Kuang among Hong Kong and Taiwan writers can compare with Gu Long. The total number of Gu Long's novels may be more than 20 million words, and the "Gu Long Novel Album" of Hong Kong Laurel Book Company collects more than 80 kinds. The collection of Gu Long's works released by Zhuhai Publishing House in March 1995 was accompanied by a list of ***68 Gu Long novels that have been officially published in mainland China.

●Died young

Leaving the world and returning to his roots

Gu Long became famous very early, but he also died young. Some people say that he died of alcoholism, but he knew it was a chronic suicide, so why didn't he control it? If a person is addicted to wine, he must be sad, and the sad person must be a sentimental person.

This is Gu Long’s own statement.

Since ancient times, there has been nothing but passion and hatred.

Knowing that there is nothing you can do, you still want to hold on to it and pursue it hard.

Like a flower, if it blooms too brightly, it will wither more quickly.

Maybe Gu Long doesn’t see it that way. Life should be enjoyable. If you are not happy, what is the point of living to be a hundred years old?

The romantic poet Byron said: I would rather die a short and vigorous death than live a long and mediocre life.

Gu Long has been drinking alcohol for many years, and excessive drinking has damaged his liver.

After entering middle age, his health became increasingly poor. On the one hand, he indulged in alcohol and sex, and on the other hand, because of several family breakdowns and an irregular life, he eventually developed late-stage liver cirrhosis. After he was admitted to the hospital, he gave up drinking for half a year under the advice of his friends. However, his health improved slightly and he regained his former bravery. He was eventually hospitalized again due to hepatic coma.

Cologne usually uses wine as water, buying "xo" brandy by the box, and spending countless money on wine. Dry the wine as soon as it comes, and drink a big glass as soon as you raise your head. But the exception is when writing, but he never drinks. Just like Chu Liuxiang never drinks alcohol when competing with others.

He likes to smoke while writing. He holds a pen in his right hand and a cigarette in his left hand, smoking one after another. If I write all night, I can smoke two packs of cigarettes.

Smoking, like alcohol, can also eat away at human life.

In his later years, Gu Long seemed to have despised life, understood life and death thoroughly, and took everything very lightly. Originally, if he was willing to undergo surgery, he might be able to live for a few more years, but he was determined not to undergo surgery.

After staying in the hospital for more than a month, my condition improved, but I couldn't bear the loneliness and insisted on being discharged. Moreover, he drank too much again, causing his esophagus to rupture.

On September 21, 1985, Gu Long finally closed his eyes peacefully.

From now on, there will be no more joy and no more sorrow. From now on, there will always be peace and tranquility.

His friend and student Ding Qing recorded the scene before Gu Long's death in "The Last Sword of Gu Daxia": Probably no one can compare to Gu Daxia and his persistence in drinking. He was hospitalized again and again due to drinking, and if it had been someone else, he would have been scared to death of drinking. But our ancient hero drank it without fail. Why?

Is it because he has been drugged by alcohol?

Still not afraid of death?

Or is he using alcohol to escape from something?

No one can answer these questions. Even I, who is closest to him, can’t tell me why.

I can only say: "The pressure on Gu Daxia was too great. By the end of the period, he had probably figured it out and had a complete enlightenment."

These things that have accumulated over a long period of time The pressure is no longer something he can bear. In this case, why should he bear it blindly?

So a few days before his death, he started drinking again. Drunk to sleep, woke up and drank again, drunk again, slept again, drank again...

The unique heroism of the ancient hero is seen again.

In the past few days, Gu Daxia suddenly asked me something in the dead of night, something he would never say!

"Little turtle, guess if I die, will anyone shed tears for me?" He couldn't stand it anymore and drank as much as he wanted. His esophagus finally ruptured again, and he started bleeding profusely again.

... His last words before dying were: "Why didn't my girlfriend come to see me?"

After saying this, the hero Gu said Comatose. He was in a coma for two days, and at 6:06 pm on the 21st, he finally completed his life journey.

After his death, in order to commemorate this "martyr of wine country" during his lifetime, Friendly spent 300,000 Taiwan dollars to purchase nearly 50 bottles of "XO" brandy to accompany Cologne as he emerged into another world.

His good friend Ni Kuang wrote a highly praised "obituary", which gave an appropriate evaluation of Gu Long's life and vividly expressed the memory of his friends: Our good friend Gu Long left this world on the evening of September 21st this year and returned to his original state, where he stayed for forty-eight years.

His real name is Xiong Yaohua, he is heroic, chivalrous, talented and romantic. He loves friends, is addicted to alcohol, is obsessed with beautiful women, and longs for happiness. In the past thirty years, with his abundant creative power, he has written more than a hundred wonderful and popular works. He is a master of Chinese martial arts novels who created a new path for martial arts novels. He is the sum of all his colorful heroes.

"When you are in the arena, you can't help yourself." Now that we have gotten rid of all fetters, from now on, all our debts to others are settled once and for all. We are no longer restrained and can fly freely in another space that we cannot understand. His works remain in the world, letting the world know that there was such an outstanding person who wrote such beautiful novels.

I can't help but hold a funeral for his body that he would like. Time: 1 p.m., October 8, 1974, Address: Jingxing Hall of the First Funeral Home. There is no ancient dragon in the world, but there is an ancient dragon in our hearts. Everyone is invited to participate.

He only stayed on earth for forty-eight years.
