"There is no good disgusting body, only good malicious action. Knowing good and evil is a conscience, and good and evil are things. " What does this mean?
These four sentences were written by Wang Yangming, a great scholar in the Ming Dynasty, and they are the viewpoints of Yangming's mind. Although it is psychology, it is more accurate to explain it with Buddhism.

The first sentence is nothing to be disgusted with. It means that man's pure self-nature ("true as Buddha's nature" or "sincerity") is neither good nor evil, neither Mencius' theory of good nature nor Xunzi's theory of evil nature. There is nothing in the pure self, no name and no language, so Gu Dade said that there seems to be something wrong. From the perspective of good and evil, both good and evil occur. The true Buddha nature is that all beings have their own feet. When Sakyamuni Buddha became a monk, he could not help but sigh: "Strange, strange, all beings have the wisdom and virtue of Tathagata." Buddha Sakyamuni refers to this true Buddha nature.

The second sentence is well-intentioned and malicious. Why do all sentient beings have the concepts of right and wrong, good and evil? Moreover, many people have a very strong concept of right and wrong, and often see the evil and wrong of others, which leads to endless inner troubles. However, there is no distinction between good and evil in our true Buddha nature. "Jue Yuan Jing" said that "all living beings are ignorant without beginning, and there is a difference in thoughts", so there is a distinction between good and evil, which also falls into the concept of binary opposition, that is, there are good and evil, right and wrong. Because this distinction between right and wrong, good and evil is the separation of our sixth consciousness, which is essentially delusion. The mind is produced from the environment. We don't live Buddha for everything, but we have the same wisdom as Buddha. We cling to others' right and wrong, good and evil, that is, we split our thoughts with the sixth sense, and this is precisely the root of our troubles.

The third sentence, knowing good and evil is conscience. What Wang Yangming means is that people can distinguish between good and evil, thus abandoning evil and doing good. This is conscience. From the Buddhist point of view, this statement is not valid. As mentioned above, Buddha has equal wisdom, which makes no difference to all laws in the world. Knowing the good and knowing the evil shows that there is another difference, not the same wisdom of the Buddha, but a different Jaken. The Shurangama Sutra says: "Knowing what you see, knowing what you know, is ignorance", and whether there is knowledge or not is the same. The so-called "you saw it when you saw it, but you didn't see it when you didn't see it", but you haven't realized the truth yet, and you still stay at the sixth level of consciousness. "The Diamond Sutra" says: "See the Buddha when you see the difference." If we can't cling to anything in the world and know that everything is false and is born of karma, then we are the Buddha now, and we have the great wisdom of the Buddha, and at the same time we can eliminate all troubles. The difference between Prajna wisdom and secular knowledge lies in the distinction between good and evil knowledge. The so-called difference is knowledge, and no difference is wisdom. We should pursue wisdom, not knowledge. Although it is a difference and a delusion, the source is still noumenon, innocent and evil. Have the ability to distinguish, but can't distinguish, because good and evil are both origin laws, and they are all things with phases. The origin is empty and unavailable. All laws in the world are equal, all laws are blameless, and everything is equal. In other words, the world is not uneven, only our hearts are uneven. Trouble and pain are self-inflicted. Let go of everything, see that everything is equal, and keep your heart still. This kind of life will be very good. Of course, from another perspective, as a person in the world, if you don't have the ability to distinguish right from wrong, good and evil, you are stupid and have nothing to do with the equal wisdom of the Buddha.

The fourth sentence is good and evil. Wu Ge is often misunderstood here. Modern people understand Wu Ge in order to study the principle of things and gain knowledge. This is not the original intention of the word "ancient man-made", and this wrong cognition has been criticized by the master of printing light. The so-called birds of a feather flock together, which is to get rid of material desires. If people have selfish material desires, they cannot acquire correct knowledge. Our true Buddha nature is like a mirror that reflects everything and is spotless. Our materialistic selfishness covers the surface of the mirror like dirt, which makes us narrow, stupid and annoyed. When Wang Yangming talks about doing good and eliminating evil, he is trying to get rid of his material desires and selfishness and sweep away the dirt on the mirror, so as to find our true heart full of wisdom and light. In Buddhism, it means keeping precepts, that is, five precepts and ten good deeds in body, mouth and mind. Zhu's Neo-Confucianism says that there is nothing outside the heart, while Buddhism says that there is nothing outside the heart, and everything comes from the heart. Each of us was blessed with wisdom like a Buddha, but we were pursuing the wrong direction. The pursuit of wealth, color, fame and profit is all ostentatious, catching the wind and catching the shadows, and falling into the endless trouble trap. So Sakyamuni Buddha said, we are like beggars with Mani pearls hidden in their clothes. We used to be rich, but unfortunately we didn't know it. This mani pearl is not elsewhere, but in each of us. Can't do it outside the heart, can't ask for it outside the heart. Wise men seek it from within and seek it from the heart. Endless treasures will naturally emerge in time. Putting everything down is actually getting, and desperately pursuing it is precisely losing yourself. Let go of everything and let wisdom show. This is the real wealth. Because most people are lost in this world with pictures, adhering to Jaken, who sees is believing, can't see through the illusion of everything in the world, turn their persistent delusions upside down, live uncomfortably, and die inexorably. Really sad!

Finally, to sum up, Yangming's theory of mind is based on Buddhism, but it cannot surpass Buddhism. Therefore, if you want to learn Buddhism, you can learn Buddhism first. If you are proficient in Buddhism, then the knowledge of the world will naturally pass.
