The expectation of love in the form of tears is perfect for purifying Jia Baoyu's soul, but pure for watering the pursuit of sex itself. It's like an idealized regulation of a pure girl's first love object, which is harsh enough to drive her crazy. Pure tears can wash away the dirt of the soul, but it is difficult to push love into our family life. Just as this scene in the Grand View Garden should only exist in the sky, Lin Daiyu's feelings can only be realized in the sky. Even the pure love between Prince Charming and Snow White in western love stories can't compare with the crystal clear love that Lin Daiyu expected. Because of the nobleness of love, I love harshly. So lingering, unforgettable, ordinary people are not out of their wits, or run away. The soul dimension of love is based on such an ideal of love, passing through the hills and gullies on earth, like the spire of a Gothic church, pointing to the high sky.
Facing the love that Lin Daiyu expected ..., people can see another structure of heaven and earth, that is, the structure of Daiyu-Baoyu-Baochai, which is similar to the structure of Miaoyu-Baoyu-Xiangyun. In this structure, Lin Daiyu symbolizes heaven, Jia Baoyu symbolizes the world, and Xue Baochai symbolizes troubled times. The sky is Jia Baoyu's guiding goddess, and the world is bathed in tears of Lin Daiyu's body before her death. Turbid times are Jia Baoyu's existence in the world. The so-called alliance of wood and stone here is the alliance of heaven and soul, and the so-called marriage of gold and jade is the marriage of secular interests. Soul and interest collided through Jia Baoyu's link, and finally each got his place: Lin Daiyu got his soul and extradited Jia Baoyu to heaven; Xue Baochai got her body and dragged Jia Baoyu into the quagmire of secular marriage. In other words, Jia Baoyu's soul is entrusted to love, while his body is mortgaged to marriage. This fission of love and marriage, soul and body, heaven and earth and their respective places ended all the scenery in the Grand View Garden, leaving only a vast expanse of land. The so-called "sky to sky, snow crystal in the mountains" depicts such a dead scene.
It can be seen that the love that Lin Daiyu expects comes from ... not secular and erotic, but spiritual and illusory. It can be said that this kind of love is illusory because of its rich ideal color, but it must be pointed out that it is this nothingness that erects an extremely important humanistic dimension, which Spengler calls the third direction, that is, the third dimension beyond the length and width of the plane: height or depth. Man is not a man because of his secular plane, but because of the existence space of his spiritual subject. With this third direction, people stand up spiritually (not physically) and become the spirit of all things. It is in this dimension that Lin Daiyu shows her independent personality and free soul.
Compared with Jia Baoyu's chaos, Lin Daiyu is full of spirituality. As soon as she set foot in Jia Fu, she noticed the similarities and differences of all kinds of people, such as poor, noisy Feng, second lady's concealment and second uncle's avoidance. Needless to say, she recognized her cousin Jia Baoyu, who seemed to have met somewhere, and she was destined to be a bosom friend. This is so spiritual that nothing can escape her eyes. Whether it is Feng's gaudy style, Xue Baochai's particular attention to accessories, or Jia Baoyu's careless vacillation, she can point it out on the spot. Such amazing acuity cannot be explained by an intelligent judgment, because this qualification is based on the independence of personality and the freedom of soul.
