Selection of couplets research: doing research (2, 4)
This lecture continues the "scholarship". Let's look at the "attitude towards learning".

Look at Mr. Wu Jingheng first (1865- 1953):

There is a determination to eliminate all distractions, and the book is very long.

The first part of this book "I can definitely get rid of all thoughts" means-I have made up my mind, I don't want anything else; The second part of the book "Long Fengyi" means that I will concentrate on this field in order to break through, climb hard and seek the highest.

There is a famous saying in Buddhism called "abstinence from wisdom", which is very profound in Buddhism and difficult to understand. Here, let's look at it from a layman's point of view:

People who "quit" will be distracted and get rid of other thoughts; People who are "fixed" are single-minded and don't worry; People who are "wise" will see wisdom and eventually succeed. Mortals probably need these three words to accomplish one thing.

Let's look at the top scholar Yao Wentian (1858- 1827):

Life is as difficult as spring grass, and learning is as difficult as autumn clouds.

I won't elaborate on the first part of the couplet "like spring grass".

The second couplet "Learning is like autumn clouds" means that learning must accumulate over time, and persistence is the most important thing. The more you go to the forefront of human research in a certain field, the more difficult it is to move forward. Because every small step you take is to expand the boundaries of human knowledge.

Then look at Mr. Zhai Yunsheng (1776- 1860):

Learn and then know less, but don't forget what the month can do.

The first part of the book, "Learn and be content", means-don't sit and dream, get up and learn. The more you learn, the more you will understand how heavy you are.

The second pair of couplets "I don't forget what I can do in the month" means-always look back, review and consolidate old knowledge in time, and don't let the bear break the stick and throw one at a time, leaving only one in his hand.

Let's take a look at a pair of Zhenci masters (1928-2005):

Not far from being lost, I feel that today is not yesterday.

This couplet is "not far from the truth, but today is not yesterday", which means-(on the road of learning, you should not only have your own opinions and determination), but also have the courage to deny yourself. Just like climbing a mountain, if you find that you have gone the wrong way, you must correct it in time, otherwise you will never reach the top of the mountain.

Then look at Teacher Xiao Tui (1876- 1958):

Deer are friends, wolves are disciples, and I am happy when I am born and happy when I swim;

As deep as the deep, as big as the sky, the doctrine of the mean whispers, you can ask for more blessings.

The first part of the book, "The deer is a friend, the jackal is a disciple, living happily, swimming but worrying", is written very smartly-I don't want to do anything, just want to live in Shan Ye and keep company with birds and animals. Zeng Guofan's old father once wrote a couplet, saying that he "has no official, no words, is irresponsible, doesn't care about the world, and will pay for Cao", which is somewhat similar.

The bottom line is "as deep as the abyss, as big as the sky, the doctrine of the mean, a gentleman can seek", which is the expectation of a gentleman with talent and virtue. The world is vast and boundless. Only when you have virtue can you abandon it?

As the saying goes, those who can do more work and those who can do better are slaves to fools. Because the process of "energy" is the process of making contributions to society; And stupid people? Can only helplessly enjoy the achievements of civilization created by capable people.

Let's look at Mr. Zhu Mian (in Qing Dynasty, birth and death are unknown):

It's hard to learn, and the people who cheat are not like us.

This couplet is "full of learning difficulties, people who do things are not my kind." The couplet says that if you are not satisfied, the more dissatisfied you are, the more progress you will make; The second part, we should be tolerant of loneliness, because the more progress we make, the fewer people we can talk to.

When you feel that "people who are in harmony with affairs are not our kind", you can appreciate the profound meaning of what Confucius said:

Is it not delightful to have friends coming from distant quarters?

Isn't he a completely moral person? Although people may not pay attention to him, he won't feel uneasy.

Then look at Mr. Qi Juanzao (1793- 1866).

Management is satisfactory, but it pleases the heart;

If something is good for the world, do it without doubt.

The first part of this book, "reasonable but pleasing to the people, less is also gratifying", means-I am afraid of endless truth and further joy. Eat the rice bit by bit and walk step by step. A watched pot never boils.

The bottom line is that "doing things is beneficial to the world and there is no doubt" means that the heart lies in the people. No matter how big or small, don't do it for the sake of goodness. How much ability you have, how much contribution you can make to society.

Look at Wang again (1877- 1948):

Learning is like sailing against the current, if you don't advance, you will retreat;

Like a plain horse, it's easy to let go but difficult to collect.

This pair of couplets "learning is like sailing against the current, if you don't advance, you will retreat;" Like a plain horse, it's easy to let go but difficult to collect. "Concise, can be used as the motto of academic research.

It's a pity that Wang is full of knowledge, but he regards the thief as his father and becomes a lackey of the Japanese. It has a long history to be tried and executed after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.

Look at Wang Xun (? -19 15) a pair of gentlemen:

If you think about the day, history is as good as letter, and it is longer than its stone.

The first part of the book, "I think about the classics every day as an imperial edict", means-learn the classics and history slowly, and understand a little every day in combination with daily life.

You see, classics and historical records are the most important things that the ancients thought, just like the formation of coal, many big trees are finally condensed into several small pieces. You will find that with an open mind and careful observation, it will tell you a lot day after day. "Classics and history are like imperial edicts" means that the history books will tell you clearly.

The second part of the couplet is "longer than a stone", which means-after a long time, when the kung fu is up, it will naturally blend into one and be suddenly enlightened, just like the Buddhist saying "poke the foundation off", which is unstoppable.

Of course, sometimes one thing takes several generations to complete. Take the invention of the airplane as an example. Dr. Wu Jun once lamented (from Wu Jun's "Getting APP》Google Methodology):

The Wright brothers can be said to be the two luckiest pioneers in developing airplanes. In my words, they are lucky. And this life was first given by the great era. The Wright brothers were born early enough that the plane had not been invented. Of course, they were born late enough, and Kelly's theory (solving the problem of aircraft lift) and Otto's internal combustion engine (solving the problem of aircraft power) are ready for them. On this basis, the Wright brothers solved the third key problem-flight control. Finally, the dream of human controllable flight has been realized.

Fortunately, Lilienthal, a German who started earlier than them and had more hope to achieve automatic gliding flight, was unfortunately killed in the test flight, making the two brothers the inventors of the plane.

Having said that, people can't help feeling that many people who have achieved great success often behave calmly. Are they pretending? Do they still have to pretend? They probably thought of the sacrifices and sacrifices of their predecessors, and then they were even more awed by the coming honor.

Then look at Mr. Lin Zexu (1785- 1850):

Since ancient times, learning is like ploughing to Qiu Cheng.

The first part of the book "Smoke and Clouds from Ancient Times" comes from Mr. Dongpo's seven laws "Giving Poems to Monks and Daotong". The original poem is as follows (the words in brackets were noted by Su Dongpo himself):

Only Qin Cong and Mi Shu are heroic, wonderful and bitter. (Qiantang monk Sicong is good at playing the piano, but he learns poetry after abandoning the piano and learns Tao after abandoning poetry. His poems resemble those of Jiao Ran. Monks in Anzhou are the pillars of poetry, but their skills are far from perfect. Extraordinary valleys often spit honey. There have been smoke clouds in language since ancient times. (Li Taibai Cloud, written by others, is like a mountain without smoke clouds and a spring without vegetation. ) The gas contains vegetable buds that are harmful to the public. (means there is no sour stuffing. Xianglinsao loved it, but Gujing was only worried about breaking the pulley. Don't promise to Han Gong easily. From now on, I will be a poetry slave.

From Mr. Dongpo's self-report (that is, the words in brackets above), it can be seen that "the language of smoke and clouds since ancient times" refers to some people who write brilliantly, like a mountain of smoke and clouds, but such people are really rare from ancient times to now.

The second part, "Learning is like plowing to Qiu Cheng", comes from the seven laws of Dai Fugu, a poet in the Southern Song Dynasty, "Jing Zhai Sharla Cheung gives poems to others with his rhyme". The original poem is as follows:

There is a clear school of poetry and books in the chest, and learning is like plowing to Qiu Cheng.

Ten years behind closed doors, I went my own way, and everything was unintentional.

Fallen leaves bloom in the roots, and the mountains are long and the waters are far away.

I always look at the new rich, which is more important?

The meaning of the sentence "Learning is like plowing to Qiu Cheng" is clear, that is, the most important thing in learning is persistence, and success will come naturally. Just like planting crops, you only need to plow, sow, fertilize and weed, and in autumn, you will naturally gain something.

Let's look at Mr. Sha Menghai (1900- 1992):

I realized that poetry is both poetic and artistic, so I don't believe that Beixiu can be compared with Nanxiu.

This couplet said, or from the altar sutra in this passage:

The fundamental reason why the world spread south can show north is unknown. He also showed that the Zen master practiced in yuquan temple, Dangyang County, Nanjing Prefecture, and Master Huineng lived in Caoxi Mountain, 35 miles east of Shaozhou City. Law is an example. People have north and south, so they set up north and south. Why is it getting worse? Buddhism is a kind of disease, and there is also an advanced disease. When you see the delay, you will gradually arrive, and when you see the disease, you will have food. There is no gradual change in law, and people are dull. Hence the name "gradually".

Well, after reading this paragraph, let's look at "Epiphany is both poetic and artistic, the north is incredibly beautiful and the south is capable", and the meaning will be roughly understood. This connection means that whether it is "poetic mind" or "painting theory", the humanistic spirit contained in it is consistent; Whether Shen Xiu (606-706) or Huineng (638-7 13), the Buddhist significance they spread is the same. Some people are wise in this humanistic spirit and Buddhist sense, and they can know it with a little study. This is an "epiphany"; Some people are born dull and take a long time to understand. This is "gradual enlightenment".

This association reminds us that learning should not be "gradual enlightenment" or "epiphany", as long as we work hard. Just like middle school students, you can "suddenly realize" the problems of primary school students, and you need to "gradually realize" the problems of college students. "gradual enlightenment" is often a ladder for one's growth and progress. Unless you challenge yourself with higher goals, how can people know how much potential they have?

Finally, Liang Shanzhou (1723- 18 15) has a bachelor's degree:

Trouble has been in the subtle field, and all the words are written in the dictionary.

This pair of "troubles are in the subtle domain, and every word is written in the dictionary" means that learning has reached its peak, and the most subtle and profound truth in the world has been figured out. At this time, making words and sentences, a pen is a classic unpublished article.

This is probably a dream. Hey, I can't come, but I dreamed it ~
