Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts is the only art college in southern China. The school was formerly known as Central South Academy of Fine Arts, and 1953 was established in Wuhan, Hubei Province with the approval of the Ministry of Education. At that time, it was formed by the merger of relevant departments of Central South College of Literature and Art, South China People's College of Literature and Art and Guangxi Art College.
