Speech as a treat for children admitted to college

Dear guests and friends, good evening to everyone:

First of all, I would like to warmly welcome all my relatives, friends, teachers and classmates to my son’s college entrance banquet!

Twelve years of hard study finally paid off today. My son was admitted to the ideal university. On the one hand, her mother and I are proud of our son's achievements. On the other hand, I feel sad that my son is about to leave home to study. The thread in the hands of the loving mother, the clothes on the wanderer's body, are tightly sewed before leaving, for fear of returning late. I think many parents have the same complex feelings as we do.

For eighteen years, I have held on to the dream of having a successful son. What is particularly gratifying is that although the society is very impetuous, my son is still fresh and pure, and is still eager to learn and make progress. I feel gratified and proud. Therefore, I would like to thank my son for the joy and happiness he has brought to us.

Today, my son will embark on a journey, and the thoughts of his son will be treasured in my heart forever. I believe that this kind of longing will turn into a bright light, illuminating my son's journey.

Entering college is only the first step in a long journey of thousands of miles. The road in life is still long. Here I give my son a couplet written by Ji Xiaolan in the Qing Dynasty: "A first-class person is a loyal minister and a filial son, and the two things are studying and farming." Two sentences, four things, loyal minister, filial son, reading, and plowing the fields, may seem ordinary, but they are not simple. It is not easy to do all these four things in life. I borrow this couplet here mainly because I hope that my son will be a useful person to society in the future, a person who cares about his family, a person who studies well, and a person who works seriously. The second sentence I gave to my son was a famous saying by Ge Hong of the Jin Dynasty: "The breadth of learning lies in being tireless, and being tireless lies in solid determination." It means: The profoundness of knowledge lies in not getting tired of learning, and the not getting tired of learning lies in having a firm goal. The third sentence: "It depends on human effort." If you work hard, you will definitely succeed.

Finally, I would like to thank all my relatives, friends, teachers and classmates for coming. Over the years, every bit of growth and progress our son has made is inseparable from everyone's support. We will always remember these things. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks here! I wish everyone all your wishes come true and all the best!
