Xunzi’s famous sayings:
1. Great skill lies in not doing anything; great wisdom lies in not thinking about anything.
The most capable people are capable because they don’t do things they shouldn’t do, and the wisest people are wise because they don’t consider issues they shouldn’t consider. The most important thing for a person is to be self-aware, to understand one's own identity, to know what to do and what not to do, what to consider and what not to worry about, and let go when it's time to let go. Do your best when it comes to your duties.
2. The nature of a gentleman is not different, he is good at pretending to things.
Gentlemen are not born smarter than ordinary people, but because they are good at using the power of external things for their own use. Being good at using external conditions to make up for one's own shortcomings is also the way to win.
3. In the midst of fluffy hemp, it becomes straight without support; in the midst of white sand, it becomes black with it.
We are all familiar with the story of "Meng Mu's three moves". The environment plays an important role in people's growth and physical and mental cultivation. The circle of interpersonal communication is also an important environment. You must carefully choose the environment around you and do not fall into bad circumstances.
4. If you don’t accumulate steps, you can’t reach a thousand miles; if you don’t accumulate small streams, you can’t become a river or a sea; if you don’t accumulate small streams, you won’t be able to reach a river; if you don’t accumulate small streams, you won’t be able to make ten steps; if you drive a horse ten times, the success lies in perseverance and perseverance. Rotten wood cannot be broken; if you persevere, gold and stone can be carved.
Xunzi emphasized accumulation. If you don't take a small half step, you can't walk a thousand miles. If you don't start from small water flows, you can't become a big river or a big sea. No matter how good the horse is, it can only run one step, but it cannot run as hard as a horse with poor qualifications. If you don't pay attention to accumulation, even rotten wood can be broken continuously. If you work persistently, gold and stone can be hollowed out. Acquired accumulation can make up for innate deficiencies. If you want to succeed, you must do ascetic work!
5. If you don’t climb a high mountain, you don’t know how high the sky is; if you don’t go to a deep stream, you don’t know how thick the earth is.
How high the sky is and how thick the earth is can only be known through practice. Xunzi emphasized practical action rather than "sitting and talking". Only through continuous self-improvement can we gain true knowledge and discover our unknown potential.
