"The wind and rain sound like reading, and the sound is audible; Family affairs govern the country and care about everything "is a famous reading saying."

This couplet was written by Gu Xiancheng, the leader of Donglin Party in the Ming Dynasty. Gu founded Donglin Academy in Wuxi. After giving lectures, he often commented on state affairs. Later, people used it to advocate "saving the country without forgetting to study", which still has positive significance.

Donglin Academy: In the thirty-second year of Wanli (164), with the concerted efforts of scholars from Gu Xiancheng and Wu, the government finally approved the reconstruction and revival of Donglin Academy in the ruins of Donglin Academy in the east gate of Wuxi City. The reconstruction project started on April 11th this year and was completed on September 9th. * * * used more than 1,2 taels of silver.

As one of the initiators of the initiative, Gu Xiancheng donated the most money, and made great efforts to instigate officials and gentry in Wudi to donate money to support the renovation. Gu Xiancheng personally set the purpose and specific ceremony for the joint hearing of the academy. In October this year, Gu Xiancheng, together with Gu Yuncheng, Gao Panlong, An Xifan, Liu Yuanzhen, Qian Yiben, Xue Fujiao, Ye Maocai (known as the Eight Gentlemen of Donglin) and others, initiated the Donglin Conference and formulated the Donglin Convention, which was the first lecture of Donglin Academy in Gu Xiancheng.
