The famous Russian writer Gorky once said: "Books are the ladder of human progress." I have firmly remembered this famous saying in my heart from the first time I read it. This is a belief. Promotes me to keep improving.
I believe that contemporary Chinese college students need quality education in the true sense, and the fundamental way to improve their quality is to read some cultural classics full of humanistic spirit. Reading can directly improve the cultural quality of college students. Cultural quality is an internal quality synthesized from multiple factors such as knowledge, ability, concepts, and emotions. It is an external manifestation of a person's personality, temperament, and cultivation. It helps us understand the world and understand our responsibilities to society. There are roughly two meanings to reading. One is to increase knowledge; the other is to learn to think deeply. This isn’t just good for college students, it’s good for a lot of people. At the same time, reading can make people slow down and think about their current life.
As for increasing my knowledge, the one that impressed me the most was Rousseau’s “Confessions”. As a famous thinker, Rousseau's works have been read by many people, but in "Confessions", when he recalled his life, he was pious and ruthlessly analyzed his own attitude. He was frank and even a little harsh. A tiny bit of the arrogance that I am the “Chosen One.” Comparing my own life, I can't be more mediocre, but it often reveals arrogance and ignorance. As for deep thinking, the main way to develop deep thinking is to see more, to feel more, and to use words to express the subtle emotional changes in your heart, so as to analyze those subtle changes, and then get to know yourself and this society. Therefore, reading can make us more transparent.
Of course, many times, we actually look at life and society from a certain point of view. If you ask us what we really think, we ourselves don’t know. Just like a river. We look like one river, but we are not actually one river. We are made up of thousands of rivers, and thousands of rivers are actually thousands of thoughts. How to make your thoughts majestic and pure and natural can only be done by reading more books and letting more rivers of thoughts flow in.
