8. Obstacles

47. There are five obstacles to bright perception: greed, hatred, sleep and drowsiness, restlessness and worry, and doubt.
48. When sinful deeds are not yet mature (have not yet produced results), foolish people regard sinful deeds as sweet. But when his behavior matures, he has sadness.
49. People who have no faith, are disloyal, love to lie, and do not consider the afterlife will likely do all kinds of evil things.

Wise people will never appreciate these four evil things: May Day, killing, stealing, lying, and sexual immorality.
52. Lying is the root of evil. It makes a person live in a bad state, causing a bad taste in his mouth. His words will not be liked by others, and he will be despised by others.
53. All living beings long for peace and happiness. Those who kill sentient beings with the rod in order to seek their own happiness will have no peace in the future.
54. Unchastity is the dirt of a woman, stinginess is the dirt of charity. All bad words, deeds and thoughts become dirt in this life and the hereafter.
55. Greed, hatred and ignorance are the three major mental dirts. Killing, stealing, and sexual immorality are the three major defilements of the body. Sowing discord (spreading trouble), using foul language, lying, and sweet words are the four major stains in language.
56. When a person does evil, his mind is stained. When a person does not do evil, his heart is pure. The purity and dirt are entirely your own, and no one else can help.
9. Sadness

88. Don’t despise small kindness and think that I will not receive retribution. The small drops of water keep falling, and eventually they can fill the entire bottle. Therefore, a wise person gradually accumulates small good deeds, and his whole person is filled with merit.
89. Be tolerant among impatient people, be gentle among violent people, and be generous among greedy people.
90. Do not do any bad deeds, cultivate all good deeds, and purify your mind. This is the teaching of the Buddha.
Thirteen. Practice
91. Saying good words without putting them into practice is fruitless. It is like a beautiful flower that has color but no fragrance.

95. It is of no benefit to a stupid person to obtain knowledge and fame. It not only damages his happiness, but also makes him self-willed.
96. It is better to read and recite a thousand useless words than to hear only one useful word that brings peace to people.
97. Flowers with bright colors and beautiful colors but no fragrance will not bring much happiness to the people you wear them; hearing good words but not practicing them will not be of much benefit.
14. Save your mistakes
98. You should not find fault with others and criticize others for what they have done and what they have not done. You should always reflect on your mistakes and consider what you have done and what you have not done.

18. Happiness

126. There are two extremes that practitioners should not do. What are these two extremes? "Sensual pleasure" is low-grade, vulgar, tacky, and obscene, and can cause damage to the body and mind; "self-torture" is painful, despicable, and can also cause harm to the body and mind. However, the 'middle way' discovered by the perfect saint avoids the above two extremes, and brings you keen insight and knowledge, guiding you towards peace, wisdom, enlightenment and eternal happiness. 20. Wisdom

139. There are three forms of mental training: the first is the training of noble morals, the second is the training of superb thinking, and the third is the training of advanced comprehension.
140. Let your old age be as innocent and romantic as your childhood, and let your childhood be as calm and steady as your old age. This means: don’t mix arrogance with your wisdom. Nor let your humility be devoid of wisdom.
141. Wisdom comes from meditation. Without meditation, great wisdom cannot be produced.
142. If a person lives a hundred years without true wisdom and cannot regulate himself, it would be better to live only one day and have wisdom and calmness.
21. Tolerance
143. If someone says bad things about you, you do not need to be malicious, resentful, contemptuous or dissatisfied with them.

26. Wealth
173. A foolish person says: ‘I have a son, I have property. ’ This is troublesome. Because he himself does not really belong to him, let alone his son or property?
174. Having a lot of property, a lot of gold and food, but only coveting your own luxurious enjoyment - is a major factor leading to corruption.
175. Wealth will destroy stupid people, but it cannot destroy people who want to get rid of troubles. When a stupid person craves wealth, he not only harms himself, but also harms others.
176. Lay people should divide their property into four parts: one part for daily use, two parts for savings or charity, and one part for emergency use.
177. A person should use money reasonably and in proportion to his income. He should neither waste nor be stingy. Don't be greedy for wealth, and don't be extravagant.
27. Confidence
178. Confidence is the foundation of wisdom and can produce good virtues.
179. People who are not mentally stable, do not understand good teachings, and have wavering beliefs cannot achieve perfect wisdom.

28. Liberation
181. Pain can be cured by removing selfish desires.

29. Diligence

187. Not reciting is the dirt of reading the Bible; not being diligent is the dirt of housekeeping; laziness is the dirt of the skin; dissipation is the dirt of those who enlighten the mind.
188. Those who work hard, are diligent, and are not afraid of danger will be rewarded.
189. Idiots and ignorant people are unbridled and unrestrained; but smart people keep working hard and regard diligence as a supreme treasure.
190. You are your own protector and your own relyer. Therefore, you must control yourselves well, just like a horse dealer controls a good horse.
192. Even if this view is so perfect and unburdened, if you are attached to it, then you have not understood it. All teachings are like a raft, meant to be crossed over a river, not something to be grasped.
