Counting from 2000, in the past 15 years, my country's corporate performance management practice has generally gone through four stages of development, namely the Deneng diligent performance appraisal stage around 2000, and the 360-degree evaluation stage around 2002. , the target KPI assessment stage around 2003-2005, and the strategic performance management stage from 2005 to now.
Performance management starts with performance appraisal. In China, the history of performance appraisal can be traced back to the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors period. In "Shangshu·Yao Dian", "Nai Yu Dalu, the storm is not lost" refers to Yao's performance appraisal before abdicating the throne to Shun [1]. It can be seen that performance appraisal has long been valued by rulers or managers in practice. In the western industrial field, Robert Owens first introduced performance appraisal to Scotland in the early 19th century. The U.S. military began to use performance appraisal in 1813, and the U.S. federal government began to conduct performance appraisal for government civil servants in 1842.
