I came across a very interesting article on a blog the other day. The Daily Routine is a blog about the daily routines of historical figures.
It provides a great insight into how brilliant minds throughout history have operated. The other day they featured the Honorable Winston Churchill.
Here is an excerpt:
Churchill’s daily activities changed little though over the years. He wakes up at 7:30 in the morning, eats a hearty breakfast in bed, and reads the mail and all the national newspapers. He spent the next few hours lying in bed, working and dictating to his secretary. 11am,
Get up, take a shower, maybe walk in the garden, then head to the study with a glass of light whiskey and soda. At 1pm,
had a three-course lunch with guests and family. Clementine drinks red wine, Winston champagne, and prefers port roger, port brandy and cigars served at specific temperatures. After lunch, around 3:30 p.m., he returned to his study to work, or supervise work on his estate, or play cards or backgammon with Clementine.
At 5:00 p.m., after another light whiskey and soda, he went an hour and a half later. He said the nap habit he developed in Cuba allowed him to work 1.5 days out of every 24 hours. At 6:30 PM, he woke up, took another shower, and got dressed for dinner at 8:00 PM.
Dinner was the focus and highlight of Churchill's day. Under Churchill, dinner table conversation was as important as eating. Sometimes, depending on the company, drinks and cigars extend the event past midnight. The guests retired and Churchill returned to his study for an hour or so.
As you can see, his daily routine included heavy drinking.
The credit goes to everyday life - Winston Churchill.
