Original text:
Meng Sheng, a great scholar of Mohism, was the Lord of Yangcheng who was good at Jing. The king of Yangcheng ordered to guard the country and destroyed Huang as a talisman. He made an appointment and said: "If it is consistent, listen to it." ’ When King Jing passed away, the case was made to mourn the king. The ministers attacked Wu and raised troops at the funeral home. The Lord of Yangcheng joined Yan. Jing sinned, Yangcheng Jun left, and Jing took over his country. Meng Sheng said: "A country that accepts others is consistent with it." Now I don't see the talisman, but I can't restrain my strength, I can't die, I can't. ’ His disciple Xu Ruo admonished Meng Sheng, saying: ‘Death is beneficial to the Lord of Yangcheng, so it’s okay to die. It's useless, and it's unacceptable for people who have no ink to live in the world. ’ Meng Sheng said, ‘No. I am the king of Yangcheng. If you are not a teacher, you are a friend. If you are not a friend, you are a minister. Immortal, from now on, if you seek a strict teacher, you will not turn to Mo. If you seek wise friends, you will not turn to Moh. If you seek good ministers, you will not turn to Moh. Death is the meaning of those who practice ink, and they will continue their career. I will be the great son of Tian Xiangzi of the Song Dynasty. Tian Xiangzi is a sage, why should he be so unparalleled as a Mohist? ’ Xu Ruo said: ‘As Master said, if you are weak, please die first to clear the way. ’ He also died in front of Meng Sheng. Because they sent the two men to pass on the great son to Tian Xiangzi. Meng Sheng died, and one hundred and eighty-three of his disciples died. (Two of them) ordered Tian Xiangzi to kill Meng Sheng in Jing. Tian Xiangzi stopped and said, "Meng Sheng has passed down the great master to me." . ’ If he doesn’t listen, he will die.
Translation:
The great Mohist Meng Sheng was a subordinate and good friend of Lord Yangcheng of Chu State. Lord Yangcheng asked Meng Sheng to guard his territory when he went out, and brought a kind of food called Huang's jade was divided into two halves as talismans, and one half was given to Meng Sheng.
When King Chu Mourning died, the ministers who were jealous of Wu Qi rose up in rebellion and wanted to kill the famous general. In the end, Wu Qi deliberately laid down on the body of King Chu Mourning. He was killed by a bow and arrow, and the body of King Chu Mourning was also hit by an arrow.
The state of Chu has laws. Destroying the king's corpse is a serious crime, and it will be a crime for the three clans. After the crown prince of Chu succeeded to the throne, he was called King Chu Su. He used this as an excuse to attack the old aristocratic forces and prosecuted more than 70 families. Yangcheng Jun was one of them and ran away after hearing the news. King Chu Su wanted to take back the fiefdom of Lord Yangcheng, but of course he did not have the "fulfillment order" from Lord Yangcheng.
Meng Sheng was determined to defend the city even if he died. His disciple Xu Ruo persuaded him that doing so would not be of any benefit to Lord Yangcheng, but would cause heavy losses to the Mohist family and more likely lead to the demise of the Mohist family. However, Meng Sheng believed that if he broke his promise and abandoned the city and fled, no one would trust Mohist in the future; and he said that he would pass the position of Juzi to Tian Xiangzi of Song State, and he was not afraid that Mohist would be unparalleled. Xu Ruo was convinced and went to die first.
Meng Sheng ordered three people to tell the story that the great master was located in Tianxiangzi, and then went to die. There were about 180 disciples who followed Meng Sheng. The three men told Tian Xiangzi that after he succeeded Juzi, he would return to Chu to die with Meng Sheng. Tian Xiangzi ordered the three people to stay because he had just taken over as Juzi, but they could not shake his will.
