1. "Encouraging People to Do Good"
This is a manuscript with calligraphy and Song style. A long time ago, before my grandfather's aunt passed away, it was passed down to me. But before I went to school, I listened to the story told by Mrs. They are all antithetical sentences, telling the story of Guanyin Bodhisattva. The stories all, as the title of the book says, "encourage people to do good". In this book, Guanyin is a female and the third princess of King Miaozhuangyan. From this clue, we can also know that this book is similar to a collection of folk tales before the Qing Dynasty.
Mrs. Tai is an old-fashioned tailor. In the early 1980s, she gave me and my sister lucky money every year. I think it was about RMB 2 cents. At that time, I could actually buy a lot of things. Compared with the price, she In terms of income, it is very generous. In my impression, Mrs. Tai never blushed with anyone. Every time she went to visit her grandma, she always prepared a bunch of snacks that children love, such as fruit cookies. (Recommended book list to improve reading skills, welcome to visit the Recommended Book Hall often~)
Then I will tell a story from "Encouraging People to Do Good", and I can recite every sentence proficiently. Not bad. Thinking about it now, this was the first "audiobook" I listened to before I could read.
A Tai passed away long ago. I was out of town when he left, so I didn’t have time to rush back. On the contrary, Auntai was thoughtful. He said that he had a clear mind before his death and arranged all the few belongings before him. He specially gave the manuscript of "Encouraging People to Be Kind" to my mother and brought it to me. Throughout his life, he was ordinary and kind. There are so many good people in the world, so it will be better.
2. "Xinhua Dictionary"
This is probably a reference book that affects everyone. At the beginning, I only had the Xinhua Dictionary, which had no cover or publication information page, was very tattered, and had a few pages missing from the Z section. It was handed down from my uncle. It is said that when he was studying in Jinhua, he ate fermented fermented bean curd and prunes for more than two months and saved up to buy them, but he didn't protect them well.
Relying on this incomplete dictionary, I already knew a lot of words when I entered primary school at the age of 7, and I took advantage of it. The usage of words and sentences is also decent, which is very popular with teachers. In "My Inheritance", I also mentioned that Teacher Shao Fuquan said that my composition was better than his. When I got first place in the final exam in the second grade of elementary school, the school gave me a copy as a reward, but it has not been updated since.
3. "Journey to the West"
I read "Journey to the West" before this classic TV series was released in the 1980s. Of course, it is impossible to recognize so many words, because what I read was "comic books", which are now comic books. Japan later published countless kinds of comics based on Journey to the West, among which the most innovative one was "Dragon Ball".
When I read the comic book "Journey to the West", my main impression was that I couldn't figure out why there were eighty-one difficulties, and Sun Wukong's somersault cloud was so neat, wouldn't it be the end of the world if he turned over and retrieved the scriptures? He grew up. After looking at the political, diplomatic and other backgrounds, I finally understood that this 81 incident was just an excuse, and I admired Xuanzang a little more. It is said that Nalanda College was rebuilt and reopened due to the efforts of Amartya Sen and others, which is a meaningful thing.
The comic book "Journey to the West" is one of the best memories of my childhood.
4. "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms"
Before I read this book, I had heard it intermittently. When my grandfather needed a haircut, he often took me to the streets of Dafeng. He was familiar with the barbers there, and there was often an old man telling stories about the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, Seven Heroes and Five Righteousnesses, Bao Gongan, etc. The one I listened to most completely was the Three Kingdoms. It's probably similar to Yi Zhongtian's talk about the Three Kingdoms.
It was already time to buy a copy of "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" when I was in junior high school. One summer, my father was working in Shanghai. My mother and I went to Shanghai to visit him, so we bought a copy of "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and read it all the way. Not a bad diversion.
What comes to mind now is a sentence from Lu Xun's "A Brief History of Chinese Novels": "As for writing about people, it is also quite flawed, so that it wants to show Liu Bei's wisdom but seems fake, and Zhuge's wisdom is almost demonic." Among the four great classics, I don’t like Water Margin and Red Mansions very much.
5. "The Ordinary World"
I don’t know how many people remember Lu Yao. This book was a prize given to me by the school when I got first place at the end of the third grade of elementary school. The "Xinhua Dictionary" in front is the prize for the second grade. My family was poor, and I never bought a book during my entire elementary school years. I basically just read whatever I could find. The books on the entire island were extremely limited, and there were no bookstores. Therefore, it is a great encouragement for schools to reward studious students with books.
In this book "The Ordinary World", Shaoping's final ending is still an ordinary worker, which shocked me a lot. My impression is that it should have a bright and upbeat ending so that everyone is happy. But this is ordinary life. According to current terms, it is probably the daily life of the poor. But no matter what, after reading this book, one of my intuitive feelings is that I should never become any of the people in this book. And I want to see the bigger world. Today, when I write this paragraph on the Rutgers campus, I feel a lot of emotion in my heart: I still have to have the dream of seeing the world, what if it comes true?
6. "The Secret of Connecting Cities"
In fact, I have read (Flying Snow Shooting White Deer from the Sky, Laughing Book Divine Hero Yi Biyuan), but this one is a little different, that is, there are almost no good people in the whole book. Through this novel, I can see To the evil of human nature. So after that, when I walked around the world, my mentality was "You must not have the intention of harming others, and you must have the intention of guarding against others."
Later, when I was given tea a few times, I saw that the people sitting across from me were just ordinary people. However, I didn’t think it was so strange when I thought that a little incentive of profit was enough to distort human nature.
7. "The Deer and the Cauldron"
In recent years, I have increasingly realized that if a person is unable to fight against the party-state and does not want to be coerced by politics, then he can live a good life seriously under limited conditions. Life is the greatest resistance. This is undoubtedly a glorious portrayal of Comrade Wei Xiaobao's life.
But speaking of it, after reading this book, my dream was to open a "Lichun Hospital". Now we are also advocating for the rights of sex workers. From a management perspective, marketing has never worried about the innovation ability of entrepreneurs in this huge industry, but follow-up physical examinations, insurance, etc. still need to be further encouraged. Of course, once again, you still have to have dreams, what if they come true?
8. "Happy Heroes"
The optimism in your nature can win you friends in life. There is not as much optimism in my nature as that of Guo Dalu, but it is still quite a lot, and it seems to be getting longer with each passing year.
9. "The Analects of Confucius"
It is a course requirement at the beginning. It must be memorized for academic chapters and so on. It will be used during exams. Later, after reading it intermittently, I felt as if "famous quotes are often nonsense." Later, when I looked at the various explanations, I was a little confused and didn’t know the deeper meaning. Now, I still read one or two articles occasionally, and the process is very repetitive.
10. "Collected Works of Gu Zhun"
This book is actually very important to me, because I read it before and after the college entrance examination, and then I chose economics as my major. This is different." Gu Zhun's views on democracy are very calm and objective. The seemingly incoherent "from idealism to empiricism" in the middle chapter is actually about the empirical spirit, which is really important in research.
