Since ancient times, it has become a code of conduct for many people and is regarded as a wise saying by many people. As a contemporary young man, in my opinion, some things need to be scrutinized.

When I think of this famous saying, I often think of scenes. A person who has read a lot of poetry books, in the face of humiliation, is in awe, and would rather die than surrender, which makes people sigh. From a modern point of view, it is extremely limited and narrow in the times. Imagine that an intellectual, in the face of a little humiliation, actually exchanged his life for a return, and his death was impulsive. So, how to distinguish?

There are many kinds of "humiliation", including personal humiliation, family humiliation and national humiliation. And the brave don't have to die. Humble ignorance is really cowardly. Patience is an optimistic understanding. Only by facing up to the ups and downs of life and facing life directly can we achieve something. To bear the burden of humiliation should not be looked down upon, but to be impulsive for righteousness should be laughed at.

There is an old saying that if you can't bear it, you will make a great plan. What is small? What is big? Small personal honor and disgrace, big nation-state. Mencius said, "It's more expensive than heaven, and you don't care about people." Only in this way can we be worthy of the sky, the magnanimous gentleman of others, and share weal and woe with the world. Their vision is long-term. How can they be confused by a moment of humiliation? Just because you are thoughtful and ambitious, you won't be too hasty. "Scholars must be loyal." Only by looking to the future, you won't be a cowardly mediocrity on the grounds of "sacrificing your life for justice."

Zhong Ni said: "A gentleman is ill and nameless." Imagine if Sima Qian blindly flatters "a scholar can be killed but not humiliated", how can future generations understand and admire this literati. He gritted his teeth, swallowed his blood and tears, and resolutely went to "humiliation" for the sake of the original Historical Records and the ideal and career of "spoiling heaven and man, changing ancient and modern times, and getting married". The most cruel punishment in the world did not make Sima Qian reveal any evasive words, "being executed without anger." Cold flowers bloom, blood nourishes grass and grows fat. Purgatory pure fire, refined more heroic dignity than before humiliation, is Wei Wei's masterpiece standing at the top of history.

"It is selfish to live and die for the country. Why not avoid it because of disaster?" A true scholar can always put his personal experience beyond moral justice; Greatness is not the unconditional choice of death. Only by putting righteousness in your heart and condescending to be humiliated can you praise the world.

Dignity, seeing is better than being empty, is momentum; I'll believe that when I see it. Only those who truly put everyone above their family can have real dignity. Then death and humiliation are not contradictory.
