Speech at the Opening Ceremony of Peking University in 2008
There are two ways of life. The first way is to live like grass. Although you are alive and growing every year, you are a grass after all. You absorb the rain and dew, but you don't grow. People can step on you, but people won't suffer because of your pain;
People won't pity you because you are trampled on, because people don't see yourself. Therefore, each of us should grow like a tree. Even if we are nothing now, as long as you have the seeds of trees, even if you are trampled in the middle of the soil, you can still absorb the nutrients of the soil and grow on your own. When you grow into a towering tree, people can see you in distant places; Approaching you can give people a piece of green. Living is a beautiful scenery, dying is a pillar of talent, and living and dying are all useful. This is the standard for each of our students to be a man and grow up.
Life is a river, and it should flow forever. A river has two components, one is sediment and the other is water. I hope everyone will not turn themselves into sand, your life will settle down and your life will never stagnate; If you are water, you will inevitably flow to the sea. In fact, every river has its own dream, which is to flow to the sea. If you become a sediment, you will never see the sunshine again, and you will never see the most brilliant moment in your life.
