Han Fei (about 28-233 BC) was born in Xinzheng (now xinzheng city, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province), the capital of Korea during the Warring States Period, an outstanding thinker, philosopher and essayist, the son of Han Wang, a student of Xunzi and a classmate of Li Si.
The legalist theory founded by Han Feizi provided a theoretical basis for the birth of the first unified and autocratic centralized state in China, and was regarded as one of the two people who got the essence of Laozi's thought the most (the other was Zhuang Zhou).
Legalists in the pre-Qin period were extremely fierce and had many real and gratifying points, while Taoist Laozi was far more profound and refined than other philosophers. Fierce legalists and profound Taoists come down in one continuous line, so scholars have the saying "Tao gives birth to law". Han Fei, on the other hand, "likes the study of punishments and spells, and it belongs to Huang Lao".
