Shi Yanhong
About Master Shi Yanhong
I saw him from afar. Holding a book in his hand, he sat on a chair with a calm expression. The thin cheeks were almost covered by books, so focused and absorbed. We walked over and explained our purpose. He seemed to be wary of people outside, especially when he saw us carrying cameras and interviewers on our journey. He said he didn't want to be interviewed because he still had to watch the temple. If he left his post without permission, he would be blamed by the abbot. We made a big deal and said that if the abbot blamed him, we would go and talk to him and we would ensure that there would be no problem. Yanhong couldn't resist us, so he started chatting with us on the steps of the Zen courtyard next to the temple.
He is Shi Yanhong, Wang Baoqiang’s master when he was in Shaolin Temple. He has been fond of martial arts since he was a child. He first learned martial arts from the Wudang sect and studied it for 5 years. When he was 13 years old, he came to Kaifeng and learned kung fu in a martial arts school founded by a Shaolin lay disciple. This stay lasted five years. When he was 18 years old, his teacher asked him, do you want to go to Shaolin Temple? think! He didn't hesitate. So Shi Yanhong became a disciple of Master Yonghe and got the Buddhist name Yanhong. Life is like this. When a decision is made inadvertently, it may change your life. His transition from a martial arts enthusiast to a real monk seemed to be completed in an instant, but he said, I am very grateful to my teacher, the Shaolin lay disciple. Once a teacher, always a father, he has influenced my life. Let me have this good home.
Wang Baoqiang worshiped him as his disciple as soon as he arrived at Shaolin Temple
When he became a disciple, Shi Yanhong was still a martial monk in Shaolin Temple. Now Shi Yanhong has founded Shaolin Temple with his disciples. The business card of Hu Temple Kung Fu Academy has titles such as "Chief Instructor of Shaolin Temple Hu Temple Kungfu Monks and the 34th Generation Kung Fu Successor of Shaolin Temple". He pays attention to "fate" when recruiting apprentices. In his words, being able to become a master and apprentice means that "the fate has arrived." Perhaps because of this, his Kungfu Monk Academy did not open its enrollment, and most of the people who became disciples came through introductions. "Master has to feel the bones beforehand to see if the child's physique is suitable for learning martial arts before deciding whether to stay." Chen Yanan explained that he is now the disciple who has practiced martial arts for the longest time in the master. He guided his juniors in practicing martial arts.
When mentioning Wang Baoqiang, Shi Yanhong immediately said: "This kid is smart and learns martial arts very quickly." When he started, Shi Yanhong thought that Wang Baoqiang had good bones and was very suitable for learning martial arts. At that time, he had not yet established the Wuyuan Kung Fu Academy, so he took a dozen of his disciples to practice on the hillside opposite the Shaolin Temple. As the saying goes: "Light gong and practice again". To practice Qing Gong, you must first practice tying a sandbag, which is tied to the calf above the ankle. Both iron sand and stone sand can be used. At first, only one kilogram of weight could be tied to each leg. After it is tied, it cannot be easily removed. It cannot be used for sleeping, shoulder lifting, jumping, somersaulting, martial arts training... it can only be temporarily removed when taking a bath. After taking a bath, it can be tied up again before doing anything else. of. When you feel no burden after practicing, you can increase it by half a catty or two ounces, and you can increase it to ten catties, twenty catties or a little more. This depends on each person's perseverance and hard-working spirit. However, when each leg is strapped to a weight of five kilograms, the whole body will start to be "heavy-weighted" so that the upper and lower weights can be properly coordinated. Otherwise, the feet will be heavy and the head will be light, which will also affect martial arts training. The "heavy body" is iron sleeve rings, iron chest protectors, iron back protectors, iron shoulder protectors... You can also design and manufacture it yourself for your own martial arts training needs. If you can carry more than thirty kilograms of weight on your whole body and still be able to run, jump, and somersault, when these sandbags and heavy body are removed, wouldn't you be as light as a swallow?
The first three years of entry are basic skills training, which is also the most difficult stage. Morning exercises are essential. His disciples have to get up on time at 5 a.m. in winter and 4 a.m. in summer. Monday and Tuesday are quality training. Running from Shaolin Temple to Dengfeng city and back again is almost equivalent to an hour and a half. Marathon. Sometimes he ran from the Shaolin Temple to Bodhidharma Cave on the mountain. "The hillside over there is so steep," Chen Yanan made a 45° angle with his hands. "When I ran up, I had to use my hands and feet to climb down." And this kind of running is just a preparatory activity for stretching the ligaments. There is training in the morning, cultural classes in the afternoon, and a review of the day's training content in the evening. The lower body is the foundation of kung fu, and leg skills are the main content of their training. They have to kick, split, horse step, tiger step, and pounce every day. The amount of training increases little by little. "Every time you increase it, your whole body will be full the next day." It all hurts." Chen Yanan recalled the feeling when he first started practicing Qigong.
When learning martial arts, you will inevitably be punished. Chen Yanan was once slow in running and was punished by his master for 3 hours. Sometimes Shi Yanhong would punish his apprentices with corporal punishment if they were naughty. Wang Baoqiang said that when he was beaten, he would sometimes fantasize about various means of revenge. But Wang Baoqiang never told his parents about the suffering he suffered while practicing Qigong. He occasionally mentioned it to his sister-in-law, but when his sister-in-law told his mother, he was fine and said, "I heard what others said, it's fine."
Three years later, I began to learn various boxing routines. Chen Yanan called it "easy to learn but difficult to practice". "It is easy to learn movements and moves, but there are many things to pay attention to in each move, such as saying For punching, the right hand needs to be very fast and explosive, while the left hand needs to neutralize the opponent's attack, stretch the fist, and catch and hook. It is not easy to practice this simplest thing well." Wang Baoqiang made rapid progress in learning routines, and Shi Yanhong also praised him for his "good understanding."
During the six years in Shaolin Temple, Wang Baoqiang only returned home during the Chinese New Year. "His father and I never went to the Shaolin Temple to see him. A trip had to cost money." His mother said, "He wrote two or three letters, but I don't know how to read." His sister revealed: "Baoqiang sent When he sent back a photo, with his head shaved, wearing a monk's martial arts clothes, and one arm exposed, my mother cried when she saw it."
However, Wang Baoqiang said that he felt that the happiest time in life was. In Shaolin Temple
I hope I can help you
