Li Dazhao said: "The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom banned opium, but adopted religion, and did not build the Republic of China, but the Kingdom of Heaven. This was an important reason for their failure." This statement shows that the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom lacked scientific theoretical guidance.
The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom:
It was a revolutionary regime established by the Peasant War led by Hong Xiuquan in modern Chinese history. Later, it was renamed the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom successively.
From the end of 1850 to the beginning of 1851, a leading group composed of Hong Xiuquan, Yang Xiuqing, Xiao Chaogui, Feng Yunshan, Wei Changhui, and Shi Dakai launched an armed uprising against the Qing Dynasty (Jintian Uprising) in Jintian Village, Guangxi. Later, the "Taiping Heavenly Kingdom" was established, and in March 1853, Jiangning (today's Nanjing) was captured, and the capital was established here, renamed Tianjing. In August 1864, Tianjing, the capital of the Taiping Rebellion, was captured by the Hunan army, and Hong Xiuquan's son, the infant king Hong Tianguifu, was captured.
In 1872, the last Taiping Army unit, Yi Wang Shi Dakai and Li Wencai, were defeated in Guizhou.
The Taiping Rebellion lasted for 14 years and reached the highest peak of the old-style peasant war. It was not only the first peasant war in the south in Chinese history that spread to the whole of China, but also a peasant war of unprecedented scale in world history. .
And it has developed new characteristics in the new era, setting many precedents for Chinese peasant wars. For example, for the first time, Chinese peasant uprisings were suppressed by Chinese and foreign forces, and they opposed capitalist imperialism. invasion, and put forward a complete set of programs, systems and policies.
The name of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was derived from the combination of the traditional Chinese ideal of world peace and the concept of "Kingdom of Heaven" in Christian teachings. "Peace" may refer to peace and prosperity in the world, or it may refer to a good harvest. In short, it means that people can live and work in peace and contentment. Before the Jintian Uprising, Hong Xiuquan had the idea of ??"taiping" and wanted to make "taiping" his goal.
In 1843, Hong Xiuquan wrote "The Original Tao Awakens the World", which painted a blueprint for the ideal society of the future: "The world is one family, everyone enjoys peace, and in a world where geometric deviations are pouring out, it will never be the same." Once it changes, it will become a fair and upright world.” At the end of the chapter, seven rhymes and one verse are attached, and the last sentence says: "Everyone enjoys peace and harmony."
