The format of quotations in English is usually divided into direct quotations and indirect quotations.

1. Direct quotation

First introduce the author, and then directly quote the author’s original words, as follows:

1.…, one of the renowned writers in …, once said that………

A famous writer of…, once said…

2. According to…, one of the renowned writers in…,….

According to…, a famous writer in…,…

Example: According to Francis Bacon, a renowned British writer and philosopher," Money is a good servant and a bad master."

Explanation: The famous British writer and philosopher Francis Bacon said: "Money is a good servant and a bad master.

2. Indirect quotations

Indirect quotations usually refer to proverbs or old sayings.

Example: There goes a saying that he knows most who speaks least.

Translation. : There is a saying that he who speaks the least knows the most.

The format of quoting a sentence in an English paper is: As an old saying goes (a quoted sentence), you can quote someone else's point of view. Regardless of the method used, the author of the paper must indicate the author and source of the quoted text. The current common practice in American academic circles is to indicate the author and source of the citation in parentheses. /p>

Correctly quoting the original text of the work or the discussion of experts and scholars is an important part of writing a good English paper; you must not only pay attention to the organic unity of the quotation and the paper, that is, its logic, but also pay attention to the citation format (i.e. the English paper reference literature)
