Unity is power, written by Mu Hong and composed by Lu Su. 1943 has been sung for more than 60 years since its creation.

Unity means strength was born in a small village in Huangni District, Pingshan County, Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region from June 6 to September 6, 1943. At that time, the enemy's rear was in the most difficult period of "darkness before dawn", and it was the most intense, cruel and difficult period of life. In order to oppose the Japanese invaders plundering grain in the border areas and implement the crazy policy of "robbing, killing and burning", the Northwest Field Army went deep into Pingshan, Hebei Province and Fan Shi, Shanxi Province to participate in the struggle. Comrade Lu Su and I are in charge of Pingshan team. We work during the day and take part in the local struggle to reduce rent and interest rates at night. In order to cooperate with this struggle, Mu Hong and Comrade Lu Su suddenly created a little opera "Unity is Strength" in about three or four days. During the rehearsal of the play, everyone felt that the plot was ok, but they felt that it ended suddenly and lacked a sense of termination. According to everyone's suggestion, it was decided that Comrade Mu Hong wrote the lyrics and Comrade Lu Su composed the music, which added a finale to the play, so the classic song "Unity is Strength" was born.

After the performance of this little opera, it had a great influence, and the theme song "Unity is Strength" was immediately widely circulated throughout the border area. It once became the clarion call and aspiration to unite the Chinese nation against Japanese aggression, and sounded the death knell for the fascist evil forces all over the world.
