Introduction to the work:
Justice of the Five Classics is an official book published in the Tang Dynasty. The Five Classics refers to five classic works of Confucianism, namely, The Book of Songs, Shu, Li, Yi and Chunqiu. During the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the court officially declared these five books as classics, so they were called "Five Classics".
Historical evaluation:
Confucius is an important representative of Confucian educational thought in Sui and Tang Dynasties, which has a strong traditional color, but also has certain academic progress and ideological originality. Confucius outlined the basic contents of the Five Classics of Poetry, Book, Rite, Yi and Chunqiu, and discussed the significance and function of learning the Five Classics. The teaching content he emphasized is still Confucian classics. In the process of Confucianism regaining its dominant position in Sui and Tang Dynasties, he was a key figure connecting the preceding with the following, adding fuel to the flames. He not only devoted his life to Confucian classics education, but also contributed to the development of traditional Confucian educational theory. From the perspective of academic originality, he did not have many unique achievements beyond his predecessors, but from the perspective of the history of the revival, unification and development of Confucianism, his achievements cannot be underestimated. As the "meaning of the Five Classics", it has high academic value in collecting previous research results, but after being designated as the official unified teaching material, it became the Confucian classics theory, and soon lost its value and vitality. This is the tragedy of the great academic works of the righteous generation of the Five Classics, and it is also the tragedy of scholars and educators in feudal times such as Confucius. The development of Confucian academic and educational thoughts after the Tang Dynasty, from being compatible with many schools of thought to being bound later, was severely restricted, which was of course not Confucius' original intention, but a historical limitation.
