Recently, I read Lin Yutang's Biography of Su Dongpo and got a new understanding of Su Dongpo.

Su Dongpo, as I know him, comes from Mink Head, When is the Bright Moon, Night Tour to Chengtian Temple and Red Cliff Fu. He gave me a detached impression, as if everything could be laughed off for him, and worldly things meant nothing to him.

He is a god-like being.

After reading Su Dongpo's biography, I found that Su Dongpo was just a mortal.

He is like an ordinary big brother around us. He has a little temper and doesn't drink enough. He likes to make his own wine and has mortal feelings.

If you want to talk about Su Dongpo, let's talk about his grandfather first.

There is not much mention of Su Dongpo's grandfather in the book, except that when Su Dongpo was born, his grandfather was sixty-three years old.

He is tall, handsome, strong, heavy drinker and generous.

Grandpa is not a scholar. He is illiterate and free and easy, just like the laughing grandfather next door.

When Su Dongpo's uncle took the exam, his grandfather was drunk. Unlike other families with candidates, they prepare for the exam early.

You see, his behavior is different.

People are surprised that he usually hoards millet instead of rice.

During the famine, he opened the warehouse and let out the grain.

Only then do we know that millet can be preserved for a long time, unlike rice, which will be spoiled by moisture.

Grandpa is naive and open-minded. Maybe all these infected Su Dongpo more or less.

Although Su Dongpo's grandfather had never read a book, he later got an official position.

Because his son has an official position, he was named "Judge of Dali".

It may be because his son has an official position, but he is still an illiterate farmer, which is a bit unreasonable.

I think this old gentleman may not care whether he has an official position or not, as long as he has a drink.

If he was born in modern society, Su Dongpo may become what many parents call "someone else's child".

He was born smart. He entered school at the age of six and was most praised by his teachers. At the age of ten, he could write many beautiful sentences.

Even though he is talented, he is diligent.

At that time, students had to recite classic ancient books. Su Dongpo was not only satisfied with reciting, but also copied down the article.

After copying, he can not only recite the article, but also help him understand it.

During the exam, he made up a conversation and fooled the examiner.

We all know Su Dongpo's talent and his free and easy. On the other hand, he doesn't care about the world.

He is outspoken and often speaks freely.

One thing I find very interesting.

During his tenure in Fengxiang, Su Dongpo was a satrap surnamed Chen, with a rather formal style and a loyal character.

Su Dongpo is a little unruly again. Chen Taishou seems to regard Su Dongpo as a conceited young man and doesn't like it very much.

When two people get along like this, it's like two stones touching.

Chen Taishou sometimes revises Su Dongpo's articles, which makes him very disgusted.

Why not? Imagine if you think your article is good, but there are people you don't like to modify it for you. Will you be happy?

Is it like a proud student meeting a strict teacher?

Here Su Dongpo shows a little temper and childishness. I thought you didn't like me. I just want to write something on purpose to make you unhappy.

Later, Chen Taishou built a high platform and named it "Xu Ling". He asked Su Dongpo to write a note, and Su Dongpo readily agreed.

But he doesn't write well He mocked Chen Taishou in his article. This article is The Story of Ling Xutai.

However, I don't know if Chen Taishou didn't see what Su Dongpo meant or didn't care at all. He asked someone to burn the record.

Su Dongpo left Chen Taishou and grew older, so he wrote an epitaph for Chen Taishou to express his respect for Chen Taishou.

Su Dongpo often talks nonsense, feeling that something is wrong and must spit it out quickly.

He can say whatever he wants and do whatever he wants.

Although Su Zhe is a younger brother, his personality is different from that of Su Dongpo, and he seems to be more mature and has a higher official position than Su Dongpo.

Su Dongpo's straightforward personality and free and easy nature make it difficult to see the shortcomings of others. Su Zhe told Su Dongpo that before you speak, you should distinguish who you are talking to. Some people are trustworthy, others are not.

The two brothers "comfort each other when they are sad and support each other when they are in trouble" and often write poems. When they get together, they will go boating together, just like the brothers of ordinary people around us, get together, chat, talk about their country and their world.

Su Dongpo is an official outside, just to be closer to Su Zhe. At the last moment of his life, he also wanted to see Su Zhe.

However, contrary to expectations, he still failed to see Su Zhe for the last time.

Su Dongpo had three wives in his life. The first wife is Wang Fu, the second wife is Wang Runzhi, Wang Fu's cousin, and the third Chaoyun is a concubine bought by Wang Runzhi.

When Su Dongpo was young, he was simple and unguarded. When he gets along with people, he not only depends on Su Zhe to remind him, but also depends on Wang Fu to remind him from time to time.

Wang Fu is clever and capable. When they got married, Su Dongpo was still very young, and she was also very young, but she looked at people and things more wisely and rationally than Su Dongpo.

She was only 26 when she died, leaving a 6-year-old son.

Wang Runzhi spent the longest time with Su Dongpo. Her talent is not as good as Wang Fu's, and she is far from Su Dongpo. However, this does not hinder her feelings for Su Dongpo.

In the most difficult period of Su Dongpo's life, Wang Runzhi accompanied him.

Chaoyun was very young when he arrived at Sue's home. She is Su Dongpo's soul mate. When Su Dongpo was exiled to Huizhou, Chaoyun accompanied him, took care of his life and supported him.

Su Dongpo wrote eulogies for all three wives. After their death, he never forgot them.

Lin Yutang also mentioned a cousin of Su Dongpo.

He said that Su Dongpo always missed her because they had the same surname and could not get married.

My cousin is his first love, and he will never forget it. Of course, these are the conclusions drawn by the author Lin Yutang according to Su Dongpo's related works.

Lin Yutang said that Su Dongpo lived in his cousin's house for some time. Although he also wrote many poems, he never mentioned her husband. He also wrote two poems to his cousin, lamenting that he was not sure of his youth.

He was very sad when the party learned that his cousin had died. He came back from exile and passed by his cousin's grave. Although he was in poor health, he went to the cemetery to worship.

Life is always inseparable from eating and drinking, and so is Su Dongpo.

Su Dongpo spent a lot of time thinking about eating.

We should have improved our understanding of Dongpo elbow and Dongpo meat by now.

According to Su Dongpo's biography of Lin Yutang, Su Dongpo stewed meat with water, then simmered for several hours and added soy sauce.

Of course, I don't know if this is the practice of Dongpo meat, but it seems that this practice retains the original flavor of pork without messy seasoning.

Su Dongpo's Biography also contains Su Dongpo's method of making carp.

He cooked carp, washed the fish first, sprinkled with salt, stuffed with cabbage, and then put it in a pot and fried it with scallion. Stir-fry until half-cooked, then add ginger slices, salted radish juice and wine, and put some orange peel when taking out the pot.

Su Dongpo also has a very simple cooking method, which is to make vegetable soup.

He used a double-layer pot with Chinese cabbage, radish, mustard and ginger in the lower layer. This is soup. Steam the top rice so that the rice and soup can be cooked in one pot.

Su Dongpo doesn't really like drinking, although wine often appears in his poems. He doesn't drink enough, which is far from his grandfather.

Although he can't drink, he likes to make his own wine.

During his exile in Lingnan, he tasted many fine wines. Every family here has their own wine. Su Dongpo drank a kind of osmanthus wine and liked it very much. He tried to brew cinnamon wine himself.

Su Dongpo's winemaking lies not in the result, but in the process. He was happy when he was making wine. As for the quality of wine, it is not known.

This kind of Su Dongpo's wine is a little more tacky, just human.
