Qin Qiong, who was loyal to others, was also a good person and received good rewards. However, things did not stop there. As a generation of war god, Qin Shubao, in subsequent performances, changed from a war god who loyally protects the Lord to a door god who exorcises ghosts and avoids evil. Why is this? "The Romance of the Sui and Tang Dynasties" and "Journey to the West" interpret different versions of folklore in which the God of War becomes the Door God. "Romance of the Sui and Tang Dynasties" says: "One day, Taizong suddenly fell ill. All the ministers greeted him day and night, and the imperial doctors diligently checked on him. He could not recover after four or five days, and he seemed to be in a trance with evil spirits. But when Qin Qiong and Yuchi came to say hello, I felt refreshed and refreshed, so I ordered them to place their statues at the gate of the palace to suppress them. "The evil spirits were eliminated and spread to the people." "Journey to the West" says this: During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, the Dragon King of Jinghe River near Chang'an made a bet with the divine fortune teller Yuan Shoucheng (uncle of Yuan Tiangang, the chief of Qintian Supervisory Station) in order to prove the fortune teller's inefficiency; the old Dragon King abused his fortune in order to seek a temporary victory. If power violates the rules of heaven, the crime should be executed. The Jade Emperor appointed Cao Guan Wei Zheng to supervise the execution at 3:00 noon the next day. In order to save his life, the Dragon King of Jinghe opened the back door to ask for help from Tang Taizong, Wei Zheng's leader in the world, and asked him to hold Wei Zheng back the next day. The leader believed that Wei Zheng was his subordinate, so he agreed. The next day, Emperor Taizong summoned Wei Zheng to the court and asked Wei Zheng to play chess with him. Unexpectedly, as soon as three quarters of noon arrived, Wei Zheng, who was playing chess, dozed off. Tang Taizong didn't pay much attention to it, but Wei Zheng took advantage of this doze to kill the old Dragon King in his dream. The ghost of the beheaded old Dragon King still lingers, blaming Tang Taizong for not keeping his word. He carried a bloody dragon head and made a fuss in the palace, calling for his life. Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty was ashamed and sad. He was disturbed by the ghost of the Dragon King of Jinghe River every night and could not sleep. He had no choice but to report the matter to the ministers in order to find a solution to the problem. Yu Chigong said: "We have established a country and killed countless people, so why are we afraid of ghosts?" Qin Shubao said: "Your Majesty, please be at ease. I and Jingde will guard the palace gate tonight to see if there is anything sneaky." That night, two generals stood guard at the palace gate in military uniforms, and sure enough, Nothing happened all night. This continued for three or four nights, and every night was peaceful. But we can't let the two of them stay on night duty every day, right? Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty couldn't bear the hard work of the two generals, so he ordered the painter Yan Liben to draw the military uniforms of the two generals on cloth and post them on both sides of the palace gate to suppress evil spirits in the harem. Later, it spread to the people, and these two generals became the gatekeepers of thousands of households. Among them, the one holding the mace is Qin Shubao, and the one holding the whip is Yuchi Jingde. To put it bluntly, the door god is the doorkeeper. He needs to be dedicated, loyal, and at the same time have extraordinary skills to protect his master. Judging from the heroes of the Sui and Tang Dynasties who are widely circulated among the people, Qin Shubao and Yuchi Gong are undoubtedly the best candidates. Coupled with the influence of the Tang Dynasty on later generations, they replaced the old door gods Shen Tu and Yu Lei brothers and became He became the new doorkeeper and served the people loyally until today.
