Transtrom is recognized as a master of symbolism and surrealism, and his popularity reached its peak in the 1980s and 1990s. Some people even lamented: "Where is the best poet in Europe after Trondstrom's paralysis?" He has won many honors, including the Peterak Prize and the Navigator Award, and has been a candidate for Nobel Prize in Literature for many times.

1992 Nobel Prize in Literature winner Walcott once said: "Swedish colleges in the literary world should not hesitate to award Nobel Prize in Literature to Trondstrom, even though he is Swedish."
